Hello!

I am a young man living in the magnificent city of Ghent, and this since January 2015. As many other young inhabitants of the city, I am co-housing with a friend in our splendid appartment (even with a large terrace and garden!).

I have always been passionate about travelling abroad and hosting visitors in my own city/country.
After many past positive experiences, I now want to bring my passion to a higher level.
That is why I worked on a new project that I want to start up. More about this under 'Why I'm on Couchsurfing'.

About me: a big cycling fan and cyclist myself, enjoying good beers & loves cooking (for myself and others)! Next to this also known as a very extravert and talkative person, with a big passion to meet new people and to show them around in Belgium (the country I am so proud of) and love to take them around in the famous beer pubs to try our foamy proud of the nation!

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

After 4 years in Ghent, I completely fell in love with this city, and I experienced that I enjoy it a lot to guide people around, especially in the cosy beer pubs!

The past years I have been showing around many people already, going from friends, family, foreign visitors (that were staying with me via Air BnB, but also just people I met in the city) and now I am ready for a next step.

I learned that many travellers these days want to experience 'the real, authenthic and local' life in a city, rather than going on the classic city tours in a hop on hop off bus or following a guide giving the classic tourist information.

I want to provide travellers real, local experiences away from the 'mass tourism spots and paths'.
For this, I selected 3 main elements (which are part of the DNA of Belgium and are my personal passions):
1. Food & cooking
2. Belgian beers & the famous 'beer pubs'
3. Cycling

What do I want to offer you?

1. Invite you for cooking & dining with a local, making local dishes, paired with, off course, matching beers! Where?: well, in my own appartment where you will have all comfort and can feel 'at home'.

2. Take you into the city to visit some surprising and well hidden beer pubs that you would not easily find when you are roaming around yourself! Off course, I can also take you to some real famous (and more tourist) beer pubs (since they are also mostly really cool) but next to these I gladly want to show you some non-touristy ones, where the locals are enjoying their special beers! Belgium also offers a wide variety of beers in all colors and tastes and so mostly as a traveller you just get stressed to select the right beer for you... but no worries, I tried a lot of them already and am happy to help you to find the beer that fits you best!

3. Belgians are crazy about cycling (as you will see in the city) and the region around Ghent has many relaxing and challenging roads to explore by bike. The only problem is that you need a local to show you the best roads (away from the bigger, boring roads) and since I am a cyclist myself, I have a map of the whole area in my mind and can take you on a ride in the Ghent countryside and the famous 'Flemish Ardens' (known for the Spring classic cycling races, such as the biggest monument in professional cycling here: 'The Tour of Flanders'!). If you want to enjoy a good ride, I will be there to help you!

Ghent is not the only destination we know, due to studies/work/friendships, we have been all over Belgium and so we can give advice about destinations all over our little country: from the beaches of the Belgian Coast to the forest hills in the Ardens.
