About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Study Earth's climate to understand past, present, and future dynamics, enjoy nature, and give back to the community

ABOUT ME

I am a 24 year old recent graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, PA, fresh off of a year abroad in Durban, South Africa, and about to begin graduate studies at Brown University. I enjoy being outdoors (hiking, running, biking, frisbee, soccer, etc.), and am looking forward to exploring natural New England over the next 5 years. I will hopefully be tacking on some personal travel time to school-sponsored trips, as I am definitely still not over the travel bug. In undergrad, I studied Earth science and international affairs, so I get stoked to talk and think about pretty much anything.

PHILOSOPHY

My hope is to be able to contribute to a more socially just and environmentally sustainable future for humankind. Obviously, this contribution is going to be in a small way since even as a leader there is only so much one can do, but as long as I feel like I''m impacting our society positively in hopefully both of these ways, someday I'll be pretty satisfied.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Eventually, I hope to host CS to Providence, Rhode Island. For now though, just starting off, I hope to make use of the community throughout the Us on various travels, and even in Providence in the beginning to make friends and have a roof before my apartment's lease kicks in.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am actually brand new to the official CS scene, but have stayed on multiple couches of friends, old and new, throughout my travels in Europe, southern Africa, and North America. It's fantastic to meet someone in a hostel, spend a few days with him/her, and then get in touch with that person when you are near their "home" some point in the future. I've reconnected and had a blast in many situation likes that- from LA to northern Germany and Cape Town.

Music, Movies, and Books

Reading mostly non fiction these days, either human history related or nitty gritty climate science textbooks. Really into Native American history at the moment.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I studied abroad in college in Namibia in the rural Kunene desert region west of Etosha National Park. One evening just above the Aba-Huab ephemeral river, the group was growing antsy. We had been tracking earthen-brown desert elephants for almost 2 hours by this point, and none of us had ever seen such a beast in the wild before. Just as we were beginning to abandon hope, we climbed midway up a local hill to gain a better vantage point. When we reached that point, the entire herd came parading across the desert, rolling over the sandy hummocks and Salsola bushes that dotted the otherwise barren expanse. The group was regal, against the backdrop of the setting sun, pointing to us the location of the desolate Skeleton Coast. I looked at the rest of us, and the elephants, and broke down and cried; it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I study Earth's past climates- if you want to know about climate change, both past-present-future, I'm your guy! Also I love all things southern African, and speak some German.
