ABOUT ME

'A stranger is a friend you haven't met yet' is a motto which I live by. I take opportunities to meet people and find out what is interesting to them, where they are from and what is unique about that place. I like to pretend I am a tourist in my own country and try to discover things I've never noticed before. When I'm traveling to further away places I like to dig myself into the details of everyday life and learn something new. I was born in on the West Coast of the USA, lived on the East Coast and went to school in the mid-West. I lived in Japan for six years and have been to Romania and Germany multiple times for longish stays.

Interests

I love to cook for family and friends & am nurturing a newly planted herb garden. I am a geography and world mythology geek. Yoga and walking are ways I stay active. I go to live theater all year but especially love outdoor plays in the summer. I love plants and nature. I like to draw. If offered to try something new, I usually say yes. Lately I would rather visit a place where people make things than a museum. I like the behind-the-scenes life. Show me how it is done! Let me try!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When my children were 8 years old and 5 months I took them to Nagano, Japan and visited communities and schools. My son and I performed a bilingual puppet show in two kindergartens.

I studied Buddhism in India in my early 20's both from an academic and a practicioner's point of view.
