About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Hang out and enjoy my week left in Cincinnati!

ABOUT ME

Born in Vietnam and a proud Chicagoan since the age of 3, I am a 23-year-old female who freelances in film and photo.

Things that I love:
Film, photo, wanderlust, art, design, fashion, a good book, sweet guitar solos, ketchup (and other food of course haha).

I think I'm a relatively simple, easygoing person. I value characteristics like respect and integrity in people as well as myself.
Sometimes I may be a shy and serious person, but I also like to be silly and loud! Just know that I smile a lot and always love a funny story and a good laugh!

PHILOSOPHY

A sometimes unbearable lightness of being! :)
For me, I try to keep an open mind to everything, I try not to get worked up over things that may go wrong or things that didn't turn out the way you'd planned. I know that the possibility of change or having to start over is there, so I'm fine with it. Though I do like some planning, I'm really a go-with-the-flow kind of person.

Here's a great quote:
We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us. - Charles Bukowski.

Respect is also very important to me, so I try to treat people/objects/places/ideas as best I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Still pretty new around here but I've been to a lot of the Cincy CS events and met a lot of the members that way!
Otherwise I hope to continue to meet some great people in other places to engage in and promote the CS philosophy!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had an old account on CS back in late 2007 and had a sort of extended "meet for coffee" experience.
When a friend and I traveled to Paris for 2008 New Year's, we met up with a Parisian CS member who showed us around for the day. He actually had an upcoming internship in Chicago with his company, so when I returned two weeks later, I actually helped him settle by driving to Ikea to get things!
That had been my only CS experience and unfortunately I got very busy with school after that, so I ended up deleting my profile because I really wasn't using it but here I am, new!

Interests

Photography, film, shooting both photos and films, travel, culture, history, integrity, underdogs, wit, style, academia, languages, linguistics, itunes on shuffle, yummy foods like deep dish pizza and mochi.

Music, Movies, and Books

Films (just a few of my favorites) --- The Fall, City of God, Snatch, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Into The Wild, The Bicycle Thieves, In The Mood For Love, Atonement, Amelie, Roman Holiday.
Though there are certainly a lot of brilliant classics, my favorite films are ones that personally touch me / evoke emotions.

Music -- MUSE + Yann Tiersen!
But some other great stuff I listen to often are Arcade Fire, Death In Vegas, Bang Gang, Led Zeppelin, Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Albert Hammond Jr., Pink Floyd, Amy Winehouse, Portugal. The Man.
I'm liking a lot of fun music lately!

TV -- The ONLY tv show I watch is COMMUNITY!

Books -- Les Miserables; Crime & Punishment; Nip the Buds, Shoot the Kids

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For my college's end-of-year celebration parade, my organization's members and I made our own unique robot outfits from lots of cardboard + duct tape to march in the parade (art school.. what can I say).

After the parade, we ended up staying in costume for the main show of the night, which was the Chicago band OK Go! We yelled a lot to get their attention and they finally acknowledged us and told all seven of us robots to get on stage! We danced around in front of a thousand people for one song and it was one of the most fun things I've ever done and probably my favorite college memory!

You can actually see the video on youtube haha:

Teach, Learn, Share

I:
am a filmmaker, am a photographer, am very good with the grid layout of Chicago and know my directions well, engage in conversational Vietnamese, do some minor tailoring work (fixing buttons, adjusting hems), and play some guitar.
... Among other things. But these are some things I can share!

Some things I'd love to do regardless is talk about topics like film and travel! Oh, and something I'd like to learn is cook, because I don't really know how to, haha.
