关于我

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to live/travel cheaply while obtaining a physics degree... then, once I have said degree, my mission will be to live cheaply in order to compensate for not being able to earn a living in physics.

ABOUT ME

I am Chris Sorensen. I was born in 1973 to an Italian mother and Swedish father on the north side of Chicago. My father was a wealthy rebellious kid from Stockholm, Sweden whose short roots were closely entangled with Swedish power and royalty; My mom was an Italian princess born of an invited man into the Capone clan.

I've traveled the world. I've met more people throughout my life than anyone would ever try to.

Although I have been in the US Air Force and have gone to college, I attribute nothing of my work choice or ethic to this. I have lived poor, I have lived rich. At a current 38, I live smart and happy.

When in doubt, I refer to my extreme youthful appearance as proof that I couldn't have made too many bad choices in my years. Most people guess that I am in my late twenties-early thirties.

I have no debt and I maintain several skills and certificates while presently planning to earn a second degree, this time in physics.

I am a good personal financial manager and saver while simultaneously refusing to accept today's monetary system and circumstances. I believe that everyone should be responsible as well as equal in benefit from the resources we have at our disposal. I realize this is such a perfect world coming from a guy that claims to have left his idealism behind in his twenties; but as my generation X turns 40 in these times, we tend to realize that it is now our world for the next 30 years; and I wish to hand it over to Y one day in completely remodeled condition.

PHILOSOPHY

I truly and passionately believe that nobody should be bound by their own negative thinking. The simple affirmations we used to hear teachers say to us as children (like "you can do anything you put your mind to") are actually true. There's something exciting that we haven't definitively tapped into which holds the answers as to exactly how we can really shape our own lives.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Brand new at this as of 10-11-11

兴趣

Playing the drums, piano, and guitar; reading biographies, spending too much time at the gym, continuous schooling until retirement (although I might not quit then), biking everywhere possible, and all of the usual things that people like to do when they are board like comparing the labels of name brands and generic consumables.

音乐、电影和书籍

Movies that inspire me, music that takes me somewhere I wasn't gonna go on my own, and books about people as interesting as I hope to one day be.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I have actually started writing a biography about my life as my luck in this world has given me lots of amazing opportunity. Though there is too much to name here. I will give you one example of an eye-opener, and a few more instances of interesting experience...

During the 1992 L.A. Riots, my first apartment just happened to be in a predominantly black neighborhood just south of South Central Los Angeles. While driving home from work after a freshly implemented curfew, I witnessed chaos in the streets, not to mention plugged intersections and bottles thrown at my motorcycle.

I once snuck over to the North African Mediterranean country of Morocco via ferry as a teenager to find hash while I was staying in my fathers’ house on the Costa del Sol in Spain.

When I was young, idealistic, and republican, I spied for the Republican National Committee. I was asked to infiltrate the office of Congresswoman, and former controversial Intelligence Committee member, Jane Harmon (representing the 36th District of California). Sorry Jane. Nothing came out of it anyway.

I have been lucky enough to play the drums for 6-time Grammy winner and blues great, Buddy Guy.

教,学,和分享

I think that understanding and following politics, religion, and diversity (although somewhat futile) is important and should be discussed publicly (contrary to traditional opinion), with a strict plan to do it with an open mind. If you can accomplish this without ever allowing for heated conflict, you will find a deeper understanding of not only the other person, but yourself, in ways you wouldn't have thought.
