ABOUT ME

Expat American living in Copenhagen, Denmark for 22 years. Have been traveling around Europe mainly - Paris, Berlin, Budapest, Prague, Cyprus, London and the southern region of Sweden. I usually travel alone but using to meet friends in those various locations. Home visits. Dislike hotels. Have done youth hostels in Sweden and there they are great. Otherwise, prefer self-service apartments. Enjoy cultural activities (historical places, museums, art events) but can just enjoying going to a cafe having a coffee and watching the people...

PHILOSOPHY

One door closes, another one opens. Life is not a popularity contest. Good things happen - shake off the bad stuff. The only real investment worth making is a personal one.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I usually plan but if I am with people who know the area I am comfortable letting them set the agenda and have found myself enjoying the oddest things. For ex the miniature train museum in Hamburg. where we spent over a hour looking at the various models. I like market places but can get bored shopping - experience is I don't like or use half the stuff one buys. I appreciate a positive attitude and getting practical useful information. Always enjoy a good nature laugh. I am a hands on tourist, the month I spent in Cyprus I volunteer 3 days a week at the local church charity store. I am willingly to do volunteer work during my visit and find that more fun than playing tourist.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have informally hosted - once brought home 3 Aussies girls I met at a bus stop and enjoyed them so much I let them stay for their entire time in Copenhagen. Likewise, I have been hosted by so many great people I have met through attending conferences for the Fed. of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO). I also have become best friends with a couple I hosted once here in Copenhagen we have been great friends for over 10 years. Nothing but positive experiences...

Interests

history, music, dance, books, lectures, poetry, creative writing, singing, play instruments (I play the flute), wine, good food, good conversation, comedy, art films, nature walks, science, business innovation, non-profits dealing with women and children. Performance poet and storyteller. Write song lyrics and have had CD performed by Mouriz & the Bleeding Hearts see MySpace nominated for Danish "Grammy". The three songs available on site I wrote the lyrics for.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all types of music except heavy heavy metal (and I have recently been to a concert) & no techno. This summer I did two Prince concerts and the after party (where I felt asleep on the floor at 5:30 am - hey I started the day at the concert at noon.) Also, tried and had fun at the largest 4 day rock festival in Denmark (Roskilde). If you can over look drunkness & public pissing by both the boys & girls it was a great time. Books - mainly non-fiction love the New Yorker. Movies - Midnight in Paris, foreign films, Bollywood. Can spend a lot of time researching films before I go see them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Recently in yoga I did my first ever hand and head stand. I have a great teacher and was amazed because I never thought I would ever do one.

I bought a ticket and am going to Malaysia all by myself - that is amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Gosh, don't know if I know anything so unique I can share it. I enjoy teaching English but am best with kids. I am good at making almost anyone comfortable enough that even the most shy attempt to speak. I rarely correct. I think it is more important to relax and try to express yourself. I have a few easy and tasty recipes I can share, prepare, teach...although not a Dane I might know more about Danish history (but will tell you in English).
