I grew up traveling in a military family. We lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years, and then the Netherlands for 6, and we traveled around for vacations. It's really shaped who I am.
Right now, I'm an elementary school teacher in a high-poverty school. It's a really challenging career that makes me appreciate being able to take my summers off. I am excited to begin my new journey of solo travel.
I am starting a 3 week trip through Utah, Colorado, and Arizona this June. I am hoping to have my first couch surfing stay on this trip.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel. I LOVE meeting new people. I can't possibly imagine a better way to do both things! I'm really hoping to see the places I go from the point of view of someone who loves that place. I hope to be able to host people myself as well.

Interests

Hiking. Hiking is huge for me. It's a way of recharging. I get very zen when I hike.

Exploring local bars, restaurants and night life. I enjoy off-off- broadway theater, local comedy, live music, art galleries...if it's weird or funny or unusual I'm there!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Pretty eclectic, Garage and Blues Rock, EDM, Clutch, Green Day, Violent Femmes, the Vines, Black Keys. I listen to Pitbull when I'm cleaning the house. I'm kinda embarrassed about that one.

Books: I'm a reader. Let's see...NF: 1491 and 1493, The Better Angels of Our Nature, Psychopath Test...
Fiction: Fantasy mostly. LOTR, GofT, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm....adopted a Pakistani lady I met in an airport who was fleeing her father and married boyfriend for a life in America. She didn't know anyone, so I took her home with me. She stayed with me for 3 months until she was able to get on her feet.

I make a mean pecan pie. I REALLY want to learn how to fix and mess around with cars. I love to draw. I would love to share music recommendations and books!
