About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Eastern Europe in three months (not long enough...)

ABOUT ME

I like learning things, I go to museums whilst traveling. I also like to sample local food and drink and see how people live as well as seeing the more obvious tourist attractions.
I live near Cambridge when I'm home, but hopefully I'll be moving into the city itself when I get back from traveling. I like Cambridge, it's not great for serious clubbers, but it has some good pubs and in summer I like to go punting occasionally (with Pimms and lemonade...)
I usually read a lot, but I haven't been reading whilst traveling to force myself to write my travel diary.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything works out in the end.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have just joined, maybe I'll be able to write more here later.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Two on this trip, though before signing up to this site. In Banja Luka, Bosnia, I turned up with nowhere to stay and met a guy who arranged for me to stay with his friend. Also, in Chisinau, Moldova, The hostel I'd looked up on the internet turned out not to exist, so I stayed with a Swiss girl I met on the train from Bucharest, who was living and working in Chisinau. It is good to stay with locals who know the best places to go. In both of these cases I also liked the spontaneity of the whole thing, although sometimes it's better to be a little more organised.

Music, Movies, and Books

With films, I like ideas, interesting concepts that I haven't thought about before and can think about a bit afterwards. Sort of the same with books, I like crime books, but will read anything. Music, I like Radiohead, Elbow, Bloc Party, that sort of thing. I also enjoy listening to more World Music if it is on, although I don't own any World Music myself, maybe I'll buy something when I get home.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This is pretty difficult to answer too, all sorts of things can be amazing. Skydiving springs to mind, for the exhilaration of the fall, then being suspended high in the air to enjoy the view. I also like the feeling of seeing everyday things (people cooking, walking dogs etc.) when I'm far away from my everyday life, which is a different sort of amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Wow, not really sure where to begin with this one.
I suppose one thing I've learnt from traveling is that people are generally good and want to help you if you ask, whatever background they may be from (and whether or not you speak a mutual language).
