Find that thing I'm scared to do, and do it!
NOTE FOR SURFERS:
**Dudes, I'm sure most of you are great but I don't host guys since surfers share a room with me. Happy to show you around the city or grab a drink though!**
**Ladies, I know what it's like to really really need a bed when you get to a new city, but CSing is about community first. I ignore mass requests that show you haven't read my profile. Really great requests are personal and specific. Please indicate you are interested in ME and not just a free hotel room. Thanks!**
Hi! I'm in Seattle these days, going to classes and contemplating my next step. After going the whole languages/humanities route, I recently went back to school for engineering. Jury's still out!
As far as personality goes, I'm pretty quiet and easy going. Meeting new people is a huge thrill since I'm really interested in how people become who they are, as individuals and a society. A good conversation can make my whole day!
Things I love: good story-telling, color & design, history, and food. OMG food!
Favorite destination (so far): Antarctica!
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart --Nelson Mandela
An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law. --MLK
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I really love the idea of CSing as a way to build community. I've surfed a lot so I know what it's like to have plans fall apart or change cities spontaneously, but that doesn't make mass-sent requests ok. I craft each request to the person I hope to stay with and expect my guests to do the same with me. CS is not a free AirBnb; it's about connecting with people. To that end, I ignore requests that don't mention my profile. Requests that are personal and specific--about why you want to stay HERE--are guaranteed a response!
**Sadly, I don't host guys I haven't met. Most of you are really great, but since I share a room with surfers I am sticking to ladies for safety. I have more than happy to meet up for drinks or show you around the city though! Maybe next time you can stay with me in Seattle.**
I started out surfing in San Francisco in 2009 and had such a fantastic experience that I was hooked! I've since surfed briefly in Europe and all over Australia during a 7 month trip. It's impossible to feel lonely on the road when so many people are there too, looking out for you and laughing with you. I've since started hosting in Seattle too.
Plants! Succulents, ferns, flowers, herbs, weird ones. Love them; always keen to learn how not to kill them. Getting into permaculture. Current count: 74.
HOUSES! Can't wait to build my own tiny house out of cob and/or strawbale. I love anything to do with home design, renovations, cosmetic improvements, etc.
History: is one big story. Enough said!
Art: I like to doodle. I like to paint. I like to fool around in photoshop and indesign. I like fooling around in a darkroom. I've been known to do your henna/mehendi now and again. Not super skilled in anything, but that doesn't matter! Art brings me joy and calms my mind.
Letter writing: I write letters like it was still the 1800s. I write them short, I write them long. I write them to procrastinate, and to pass the empty time. I love writing letters. I get depressed when I exhaust my to-write list, and need to wait for replies.
Crappy Fantasy/YA/Cartoons: Everyone has guilty pleasures, these are mine.
Music, Movies, and Books
Books: His Dark Materials, John Adams, The Portrait of a Lady, Lolita, Heart of Darkness, Lord of the Rings, Mists of Avalon, The Far Pavilions, The Things They Carried, The Scarlet Letter.
Authors: Jane Austen, all the Brontes, Neil Gaiman, CS Lewis, Tolkien, Patricia McKillip, Robin McKinley, Anne McCaffrey. Basically any genre, with a special affection for fantasy and sci-fi
Movies: anything by Disney (animated), Pixar, or Studio Ghibli. Action adventure epics, such as old Star Wars, Indiana Jones, James Bond, LOTR, Narnia. Don't like gruesome.
Music: pretty much anything from the 1960s onward, excepting rap and r&b. currently into indie folk and old folk songs.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
-For four years I participated in the most amazing, outrageous, and biggest scavenger hunt in the States. Each May, all the social barriers fell away and we could do anything together!
-The stunning scope of Antarctica. There are no words.
-Taking care of orphaned kangaroo joeys in Australia.
Teach, Learn, Share
Happy to teach: henna designs, recipes, plant care!
I would *love* to learn more about whatever you're passionate about. I like to get my hands dirty so please please show me how you paint, or sculpt, or train dogs, or do yoga, etc. There's so much I want to know!
**Especially any massage/muscle relaxing techniques you've got!
