About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think couchsurfing is a such a great idea! When you're travelling it can be hard to meet local people and discover their everyday way of life, which is something that makes every place interesting and unique. Couchsurfing seems perfect for bridging that gap, learning more about the culture of the place you're staying, and doing and seeing things there that you might not otherwise find out about.

My partner Jon and I have really enjoyed hosting couchsurfers in Dunedin too, everyone has been so lovely! It also encourages us to get out and do things and go places we don't often go in our own town with them, which is really cool.

Interests

In no particular order, I like: reading, knitting, dancing, listening to music, going to gigs, exploring new places, swimming in the sea/river/lake, eating yummy food, stargazing, planting trees, skiing, hanging out with family and friends, playing games - card/board/puzzles/Mario, daydreaming, going for bike rides and walks, playing with puppies and walking dogs at the local SPCA, just chilling.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like lots of different music. There's so much fantastic music out there that it's hard to pick just a few favourites, but my current ones would include Lawrence Arabia, Grimes, Radiohead, Lykke Li, The Ruby Suns, Santigold, Arcade Fire, Shenandoah Davis, Doprah, Yann Tiersen's Amelie soundtrack...

Movies - I'll watch almost anything, as long as it's not too scary for me! All time favourite would have to be Amelie, it's been my favourite for a long time and is hard to beat. Also a fan of Wes Anderson and Michel Gondry films.

Favourite books from my childhood: Winnie-the-Pooh, the Narnia series, stories by Roald Dahl, Swallows and Amazons.
More "grown-up" books: Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, Terry Pratchett's Discworld books, The Bone People by Keri Hulme.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending a day at Machu Picchu and making it to the top of Wayna Picchu, after four days trekking, mountain biking and the final 4am start to climb all of them steps. Then running all the way back to Aguas Calientes to catch the train just in time!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to knit or crochet if you'd like to learn.

I'd love to learn how to surf better (I've had a couple of lessons and even managed to stand up. Last time I ended up terribly sunburnt though - ouch!), and to learn to speak another language, or at least a little bit of the language of each country I visit.

I'd be very happy to cook for you, and share friendly conversation :)
