i want to learn to be an integral part of my natural environment, to feel myself to have a place here as much as the birds or the trees. i want to be solid and relaxed within myself, to feel good enough in my own skin to be able to extend something positive to others. i want to be whole and free.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i've only just started hosting people - had my first guest last night! which was a perfectly pleasant experience. i'm very happy to offer anyone a place to sleep for free, but just to warn you that i might not always be feeling sociable or wanting to eat together or entertain people. guess it's pretty much just about the couch with me, and not so much about the whole cultural exchange bit. i don't want to sound rude or unfriendly, but it's true i'm often just wanting to get on with my own thing, and would like it if guests would be happy to look after themselves (read a book, go for walks etc). similarly, as a guest, i pretty much just want a place to sleep, i don't really require you to engage with me that much.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i've couchsurfed twice via this website, which were both good experiences. some time ago i spent a couple of years staying in the houses of various of my friends, in spare beds, on sofas or on the floor, and feel like an experienced and accomplished guest.

Music, Movies, and Books

my favourite type of music is music i am making myself - singing together with others... i like folky things and things with direct heartfelt vocals and lyrics. also electronic music to dance to...

i love books that have characters i can believe in, described insightfully in ways that make me love them. i want a book to have beautiful descriptions of nature in it, and be beautifully written. i want it to leave me feeling happy, not bleak or disturbed.

i like the beauty of the studio ghibli animations. i like quiet films with no or little violence in them, which are about a gentle observation of the vagaries of human life - like 'together', 'lost in translation', 'the station agent', 'the lives of others'. films which are somehow lyrical and wistful.

Teach, Learn, Share

a bit about farming and gardening, plant and insect identification
more about focusing (a life-enhancing practice related to counselling and meditation). however, as i said above, i'm not always really wanting to sit and talk for a long time, and might prefer you to shift for yourself while i get on with whatever i would have been doing anyway!
