About Me

I grew up in Iowa, but I love to travel. Medical school is my current focus and I enjoy volunteering and using my skills to help other people. I'm easy going, I love to laugh, and I'm and eager to learn about new places and people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling and experiencing new cultures is a passion of mine and couch surfing seems like the best way to do that. For one, medical school is expensive so if I can save money while traveling that's a bonus. More importantly though, is that when I travel to a place with a culture that's new to me I want to see what it's like to actually live there. I feel like I miss a lot of the local life staying in hotels and hostels.

Interests

I love camping, kayaking, climbing, hiking, skiing, and basically anything else outdoors. I'm always up for an adventure and I love trying new things. I think the best way to get to know someone is over a good meal and a bottle of wine.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything that I can dance to is good music to me. My favorite movies are Tarzan (the Disney version), anything else Disney, the Ocean's series, Gladiator, and I'm also a sucker for romantic comedy's. I am a fan of Audible and I enjoy listening to biographies (Steve Jobs and Einstein are both good) as well as the Sherlock Holmes series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a summer touring hospitals in China and then interned at a Hospital in Nepal. While in Nepal I got the chance to help at a mobile health camp and get to know a host family in the village we were at. They showed me how to plant the rice fields and swing on tree vines. If you've ever seen the Disney movie Tarzan you'll understand that the swinging between the trees is the amazing thing in this story.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can instruct on emergency first aid and cooking a heavy midwest style breakfast. I'd like to learn how to cook local foods in the places I visit and where to go for a good sunrise/sunset. I want to share stories, food, and adventures.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I always bring some american pins with me when I travel along with my contact card. If I give you a contact card you can feel free to call/email/text/or skype me at any time whether you need something or not. I can also share some midwest recipes that I love and a good hardy laugh at most things that are even remotely funny (I laugh easily).
