ABOUT ME

I think that most of us spend most of our lives talking to ourselves about ourselves and then we tell ourselves that we don't have big ego's. Even while I type this I'm partly talking to myself about something else, just as you are while reading it. Constant inner dialogue. Most of it is silly. My main thing in life is cutting back on this silly stuff as much as I can. Trying to be clear-headed and relaxed. That's it really...

EDIT 18/07/2016 (after 5 years) : Still all of the above. Calm beats chaos seven days a week.

PHILOSOPHY

I have truly believed for a long time now that dignity is the only thing that matters in life. You are only as good as how you treat people. It's not always an easy thing to get across, but when you are talking to someone they are the most important thing in your life right then and deserve your total respect. We are all special. Don't ever look up to anyone and don't ever look down on anyone. This is what I believe.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was lucky enough to host close to 100 people over an 18 month period in Dublin. I also surfed around the Balkans and Germany. All my surfing experiences have been as good as hosting, though different. It's always different. People have been very good to me eveywhere I have stayed.

Greyhounds, licking my plate after dinner, playing drums, writing instrumental music, a bit of fiction writing, a bit of this, a bit of that, Buddhist teachings, meditation, sticking my tongue out at babies, smiling when someone breaks something, the Irish language, playing poker, horseracing, playing live music, 100km bike rides in the rain because I feel so good after that I giggle like a baby, walking really slow, playing guitar, privately recounting things I learned in the 1970's and realizing I'm still just a boy, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, counterproductive mental gymnastics, hurling, kissing girls, smiles from strangers, Guinness on a Sunday, t-shirt weather, silence and it's intelligence, almond fingers, kind faces, three day weekends and six month summers.

I used to read a lot more than I do now. I like books by Doestoevsky, David Mitchell, Haruki Murakami, Magnus Mills, Paul Auster, Albert Camus, Celine, Bukowski, Anton Chekov and some others too. Reading is a good thing but as I said I don't really have time anymore.

I like many bands -- The Stone Roses, Flaming Lips, Neu!, Can, Primal Scream, Aphex Twin, DJ Shadow, Boards of Canada, Amon Tobin etc etc

I never did get into movies.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I went to Thailand for a few months and integrated with the people. I hardly spoke to another westerner while there. This had some kind of affect on me. People with so little actually had so much. I will never forget these people and their outlook on life. Us Westerners have little clue how to live properly. That means you and me almost as much as it does bankers and politicians. It's quite a connundrum really because we often scorn the capitalist World we live in yet we all have laptops, homes and food. Ever been hungry? Actual hunger from longterm involuntary malnutrition? I doubt it. That's because capitalism fills your belly...and yet it is so wrong and we lose out on so much. Criminals run our World and we all moan about it while lapping up the proceeds. Ah yes, the paradoxical uncertainties we must face about ourselves if we want a glimpse of truth.
