About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Not to die of exposure in the icy streets of Finland. Additionally, continue my near perfect recent streak of not breaking anybodies toilet.

ABOUT ME

NOTE: The only sleeping space I can offer in my flat in its current state would most likely be a profoundly uncomfortable experience for anyone with a normally shaped spine to lie on. if for whatever reason you're desperate, abnormally comfortable on tiny, cramped couches, or exercise a flagrant disregard for the spinal wellbeing, then feel free to send a request and I'll do my best to accommodate you!

Greetings and salutations! I am Lawrence and I's nice. I promise.
My apologies first and foremost for letting the vast majority of couch requests go un-noticed. I tend to forget to check these things. Please do sent me some requests though. It's the only kind of validation I get.
I'm a graduate in Philosophy from the university of Glasgow and due to there being almost no practical application for this qualification, I figured my time would be better spent travelling around and looking at things and going "ooh" rather than accepting the inevitable management position in burger king that is no doubt in my very near future.

PHILOSOPHY

Being a philosophy student, I find this question impossible to answer as I'm not entirely sure that this section of the profile even exists.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Until last year, I'd only ever hosted. Those that I had hosted have been, pretty much exclusively lovely people, whose company I enjoyed thoroughly.
As of November last year, I've also participated on the surfer-side of things and was genuinely awed by the hospitality, generosity and warmth of my hosts.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Overwhelmingly positive. I've met some lovely people and one or two that I can't imagine not being friends with for life. No one I've either hosted or surfed with have ever robbed me in my sleep or anything!

Interests

In my spare time (read: All my time) I mostly write needlessly complex progressive music and am currently drawing pitifully slowly near to finishing thecomposition of the concept album I've written about a spider/human war, told exclusively from the perspective of the spiders. I have a /lot/ of free time...
I also, would (rather generously) would call myself a film-maker, altough I have made no films as of late. If you're feeling up to it, feel free to check out my so-bad-it's-good(but still is basically just bad) zombie comedy masterpiece "Zombies in the hood" on youtube. It's stupid, confusing, poorly edited and muted in one part due to a frankly ludicrous copyright claim, but damnit, I made it.

Recently I've been embracing my inner nerd, (much to his disdain; he's got an aversion to being embraced.) and getting pretty heavily into various board and card games; Arkham Horror, Munchkin, Dominion etc. No shame.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: The darker, weirder, more atmospheric and more cryptic a movie is, the more I'll enjoy it. I enjoy comedy films, too, but then, who doesn't?
Oh, also I'm not above watching terribly written and performed action or horror films for their novelty value. I'm looking at you, the entirety of Jean Claude Van Damme's career.
Also blaxploitation. There is literally no better genre.

Music: Opeth, Dream Theater, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Devin Townsend Band, Strapping Young Lad, Monster magnet, Turisas, Ensiferum, The Gentleman's Paradox, Moonsorrow, Ludovico Einaudi, Guthrie Govan, The Satch and so on. Good rule of thumb is to assume any band that plays 20 minute long prog-epics, I will enjoy.

Books: I generally take an interest to any philosophy related book put infront of me (unless it's about political philosophy, because no one cares about that.) provided it's not written in indescipherable moonspeak as a good chunk of them are.
Oh also, Kurt Vonnegut is a personal favourite, especially 'Breakfast of Champions'

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know about awestruck, but I've had quiet little moments of introspective reflection whilst sitting on a roof, watching a lighthouse on Arran in the dead of night, walking through ridiculously picturesque vistas in the highlands, or wading through knee-deep snowdrifts around Gdansk airport at 3am, which have been quite effecting.

Ideally though, I'd like something a bit more impressive to put in this box, so if we should meet, make sure to show me something awe-inspiring when we do, k? k.

Teach, Learn, Share

Coming from Scotland, all I require is that you get me a deep-fat fryer and I will amaze your tastebuds and irreversibly damage your arteries with some of our local cuisine.

I'll argue with you, literally forever, about philosophy if that is a thing you'd want, which obviously it isn't.

I love learning languages (though have yet to master any, but my native tongue), so, anyone that can teach me the basics of a language, or any particularly nice phrases, good swear words or unbelievably childish insults within it (Bajskorv is my current favourite) is very welcome to do so.
