I am working and (soon-to-be) living in Detroit! While I love and miss the Colorado sunshine and mountains and get out there as often as I can, I have gained a true appreciation for the beauty that is Michigan.

I cannot have guests where I am currently staying, but I plan to welcome CS'ers when I get an apartment or house in Detroit! I am passionate about, and totally in love with, the people and city of Detroit. I am excited to share that love with travelers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just started my job in Southwest Detroit and it is an hour commute one way. I figure I can take this opportunity to meet new people in the city by crashing on their couches and save on gas money and pollution in the meantime.

Interests

I am a genuinely curious person, so my interests seem never-ending. I am interested in people and how they define/communicate themselves, how they see the world around them and where they fit in the scheme of things.

My sister and her husband are through-hikers (already conquering the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trail) and I have begun preparing to join them on smaller adventures as well as create some of my own. I enjoy anything outdoors, except maybe any activity where I get too cold for too long, then, admittedly, I become more like a pile of mush.

I love the arts, especially the symphony or opera, checking out the architecture in cities, walking around museums and catching foreign films or stopping in at used bookstores. I also love sports, participating and watching, and I am a Detroit sports fan (with an appropriate lifelong love for the Denver Broncos).

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music and prefer to listen to it live. I have an affinity for listening to classical, rap or 80s hairbands when I do turn on the car radio.

Books are lovely.

Lately, I have been streaming TV shows as a distraction or escape. That will be changing, but fictional crime shows and action movies are my guilty pleasure.

I love discussing play, creativity and creative drama and their crucial role in human development.

I am a motivator and a fixer by nature, and possibly one of the most resourceful people I know. Although I have always struggled with feeling as if I do not have a plethora of tangible skills, the older I get the more I realize that motivation/encouragement, resourcefulness and enthusiasm are not as commonplace as I would hope. I am finally learning to appreciate what I have to offer.

What I don't have in talent I make up for in humor and enthusiasm. :-) Also, I will leave your place looking better than I found it. I have no problem socializing and/or hanging out, but I also have no problem skipping niceties and just passing through doing my own thing.
