About Me
Hi there, I'm Colleen! I grew up in a small suburban town in New Jersey in the USA. I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology for university and went on to work in marketing at a music magazine for a few years, living and working in NYC. After awhile, I realized marketing was not what I was truly passionate about, so I quit my job, traveled to Peru and eventually went back to school to get my graduate degree in International Affairs, concentrating in Cities and Social Justice. While back in school, I joined the trainee program at Brooklyn Grange, a 1.5 acre rooftop farm in Brooklyn and fell in love with growing food. Once I completed my degree, I was ready to leave the city life behind after nearly eight years living in NYC. In 2015, I completed a full-time apprenticeship at Amber Waves Farm, a 25 acre organic vegetable and wheat farm on Long Island in New York state. In 2016, I will join the same farm for another season as their Director of Events and Programs.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My favorite part of traveling has always been getting to meet and get to know other wonderful humans. People are always who help make a journey great. My partner Christopher and I have used Couchsurfing a couple of times through his profile and have always had really great, interesting experiences. We love getting to know locals and getting their advice, recommendations, etc. We also look forward to a time when we are finally settled someplace and can host our own Couchsurfing guests.
