About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See all 50 states. My (Ar)Kansas Trip marks the 47th & 48th!

ABOUT ME

For the last 15 years, I've been on a journey to visit every incredible, shocking, funky, homey, beautiful state in the union. After I finish a trip of exploring some new states, I make a scrapbook of what I experienced. I'm visiting Kansas and Arkansas to complete my investigation of the 48 contiguous states -- hooray! I'm looking for a couch to surf in Kansas, so get ready for me...

PHILOSOPHY

Never ruin a good story with the facts.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment, I'm a couchsurfer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed in probably 30 hostels...and the strange thing is that most of them were in the U.S. Every year, I think, "Maybe I'm too old to hostel now..." but I can never pass up the opportunity to meet fun adventurers while I travel!

I know that hosteling isn't exactly couchsurfing but the austere accommodations and a chance to meet some truly excellent people is pretty similar.

Interests

I am a...
- Rollerderby spectator
- Civic engagement enthusiast
- Advice column follower
- Public art fan
- World-changing activist
- Movie watcher

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: memoirs of abject misery, preferably in comic book form. Also, I'm bringing a pile of novellas on my upcoming trip and plan to listen to "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn, as recited by that charming Bostonian, Matt Damon.

Movies: anything at the weirdo theatre (e.g. indies, documentaries, arts house stuff)

TV Shows: "Parks & Rec," "The Mindy Project," "Orange Is The New Black," endless reruns of "Law & Order"

Music: chill out, Motown, instrumental hip hop, ‘80s New Wave.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On a whim, a pilot friend took me and two more friends in a four-seater plane to enjoy lunch in Nantucket and then fly around the Statue of Liberty. (This was before 9/11, so we got really close to the Statue.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach people to juggle.

I used to teach an adult education course on grantwriting but, mother of pearl, that stuff is boring.
