About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Europe: SUMMER 2013!
ABOUT ME
My name is Nathan and I am 23 years old. I am pursuing a bachelors degree in International Studies at California State Long Beach & working part-time to support myself. I am a vegetarian, cyclist, and amateur musician. I consider myself a laid-back open minded individual who is always ready for a stimulating conversation. I just got back home after backpacking through several countries in Europe for two and a half months. It was an eye-opening journey and now I'm back home working towards funding the next backpacking journey.
PHILOSOPHY
Treat people how you would like to be treated. Always.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I currently sleep in a living room and I do not have enough space to host couch surfers at this time. However, once I get my living situation settled I would love to host surfers and return the generosity that has been shared with me.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first couch surfing experience was beautiful. I was lucky enough to travel with three great people and stay with a group of hospitable hosts who shared some of the same beliefs/ world views as myself.
Interests
I obviously enjoy traveling, riding my bike, listening to music, camping, hiking, watching films, random bursts of inspiration, writing, learning about new cultures and cooking/ consuming vegetarian cuisine.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I'm a sucker for French New Wave: Breathless, A Woman is a Woman, 400 Blows, Masculine/ Feminine, Band A Parte. Anything directed by David Lynch! Y tu mama tambien, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Inglorious Basterds, The Holy Mountain, Melancholia, Martha Marcy May Marlene, My Own Private Idaho, The Squid and the Whale.
Music: I am a huge fan of Beach House, Radiohead, The Knife, Portishead, Slowdive, Animal Collective just to name a few. I listen to all types of music, but shoegaze/ IDM/ post-rock music is what I naturally gravitate towards.
Books: Some of my favorite authors include: Woolf, Joyce, Vonnegut, & Kafka. Giovanni's Room, The God of Small Things, A Room With a View, Franny and Zooey, Brave New World, 1984.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
It was my last day in Barcelona and I missed my plane flight to Stuttgart. I had to book another flight to go to Munich to get a music festival the following day. Hitchhiking, sleeping on yoga mats and the meeting of hospitable strangers ensued on an unplanned journey through Germany.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can cook! I am also a really easy person to talk to. I love meeting new people and engaging in deep conversations. I would like to learn more languages and improve upon my German and Spanish, maybe even pick up some French.
Countries I’ve Visited
