ABOUT ME

Outdoor exploration: hiking, paddling and trying to surf more. I teach Outdoor Education in the Redwood forest serving fifth and sixth graders from San Joaquin County. In the summer I work as a guide with Kayak Connection, helping folks have a positive experience in the Elkhorn Slough.

I traveled from Pennsylvania, crashing at the homes of friends and family along the way but I am new to using this website.

兴趣

I enjoy finding interesting places to explore (museums, parks, monuments) and of course, trying great local food joints. But sometimes, I just like to wander and see where adventure takes me. I just bought a wet suit and am dedicating free time to surfing when I have that opportunity.

My musical taste depends on what the mood is. I like a variety of genres but picky enough to know what I'm not into. I love a good summer blockbuster! I just finished a book about the natural and supernatural history of coyotes in North America. I'm excited to start Ready Player One.

Hiking to the top of Angel's Landing with friends in Zion National Park gave us some of the most impressive views of Zion Canyon. There were sections of trail where we had to hold onto chains staked in the rock to ensure our safety.

My job as a naturalist let's me connect people with the outdoors in ways they wouldn't expect! Let's take a walk:

Redwood trees have adaptations making them resistant to insects and fire. Redwoods are filled with tannins that are responsible for keeping away attackers such as Bark Beetles. Tannic acid is also what makes the Redwoods red! The thick and fibrous bark of a Redwood makes them less susceptible to fire. You can even see where fire has left it's mark as the tree's bark slowly grows over damaged spots!
