About Me

Hi surfers!

I'm a German who found her new home in Innsbruck, Austria. I'm saying this because in the past 10 years Innsbruck is the first place I have lived in for more than 1 year. Yay! Compliment for this amzing little city, which is the paradise for all outdoor and nature lovers. I ended up here mostly due to the Master's program in Management, Communication & IT and fell in love with skiing after lectures, partying on Mondays, going brunching on Saturdays on the farm next door and attending startup events from time to time. Innsbruck has it all and it is this choice you have here while living in a relatively small town at the same time, that I love most.

Since October, I am working in IT Service Management at the University of Innsbruck, where I am writing my Master's thesis too. Things that have to be done apparently.. ;) But... time for traveling, meeting friends and getting to know new faces is always there! My last trip (and semester abroad) took me to India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Indonesia and Nepal. The next trips will be Brussels and the US, which will both be study tours.

ABOUT ME

I love having deep conversations because life is too short for small talk. I have many ideas, many things I still want to do and the more I do and the more I travel, the longer the list gets. I'm interested in other people's stories, in sharing travel experiences and talking about countries, people, cultures, politics, food - you name it.

People describe me as honest, open-minded, flexible, down-for-anything and a little crazy.

If you want to know anything specific, ask me!

PHILOSOPHY

"The truth is that, no matter what kind of game you find yourself in, no matter how good or bad the luck, you can change your life completely with a single thought or a single act of love." - Gregory David Roberts (Shantaram)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The couchsurfing concept is just fantastic and I am here to connect with people who have this kind of mindset of sharing homes, couches and most importantly stories and experiences.
Looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible!! And because I haven't been able to host yet, I am hoping that someday very soon, I can welcome guests to my home too.

Interests

I take every single chance to learn more about others and about myself. It's all about learning in life, which is why I embrace anything that's new and different to me: any situation, encounter, experience. I am very curious and enjoy being challenged!

Breaking out of your comfort zone, habits and everyday life opens up A LOT of doors! And: you don't know what you have until you have to miss it ;)

I love being active and outdoors, doing sports (may it be running, skiing, diving or surfing), exploring new cities, going for drinks... Spending quality time with both friends and family is very important to me, but I value the time I have on my own just as much. Boredom is a foreign word to me ;)

To be honest, I'm also a bit of an adrenalin junky: Bungy jumping, skydiving and that kind of stuff are totally my thing :)

You might know by now that traveling is one of my favourites... Languages, cultures, food (especially Asian and Indian cuisine) and music too!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: There's no day without music for me. I listen to anything from Indie, to the 80s, to deep house and electronic stuff. To name a few: Hot Chip, Parov Stelar, Chet Faker, Crystal Castles, Disclosure, Damon Albarn, Flume, Alle Farben.

Movies I'm a big fan of: Weit. Into the Wild, Chasing Mavericks, Gorillas in the Mist, The Shawshank Redemption, In Bruges, Rain Man, Django, A man named Ove.

Favourite book: Shantaram! And no other

What I Can Share with Hosts

A quick German lesson for anyone who's keen! And many secret travel spots, which I might tell you about, if I like you ;)

No seriously.. As I mentioned, I studied tourism. I wrote my thesis about backpacking and "flashpacking" and put a lot of thought into the way we travel, why that is and what impact this has on our lifestyle and even our perceptions of what and where Home is.

Researching travelers' motivations and what drives them is a lot more interesting than sticking to the whole "travel agencies, tour operators and hotels" part of tourism. It's boring! And guess what: In fact, I hate hotels and package tours. Which is why I am here and open to exchange travel experiences and views on traveling with you :)
