About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find a boat, catch squid!

ABOUT ME

I live with my girlfriend in Maryland and once a year or so I go fishing and hope to find the right place. It makes sense to me, for income and writing material, and I love the shape it gets me in. I'm exited about California this year, and I want to make some friends while I'm out there.

If you host me, I will be respectful and clean, and open to anything you want to show me. We could cook dinner together or I could cook it, and I can buy ingredients and do dishes.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't let time slip through your fingers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I donated a big couch to a place I used to share.

Interests

I have a child-like enthusiasm for things that get my attention, and right now that's cooking! I like to go for walks and reflect on my surroundings, and I'd really like to find a hiking or running partner. Basketball and tennis are fun too. Riding freight trains.

Music, Movies, and Books

Jim Carrey, De Niro, Deerhunter, Forrest Gump, Ghost Dog, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Funkadelic, early Outkast, Coolio Fantastic Voyage. Books: Wallace Stevens, Sherman Alexie, Ted Conover and Tony Horwitz, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Borges, Roberto Bolano. I really like the Billy Collins videos on youtube.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed Mount Verstovia last summer in Sitka, Alaska. Rugged climb, beautiful view. On the way up, we could see the mountain peak literally jut into the clouds. At the top, catching my breath, there was an eagle circling not far off. It was one of my first days off the boat, and it felt good!

Teach, Learn, Share

Could teach some Russian and learn some Spanish. I know a few African djembe rhythms I could share and you could show me how to jam.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, Croatia, Egypt, France, Germany, Guam, Mexico, South Korea

Countries I’ve Lived In

Japan, Russian Federation, United States
