About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To show my son the United States, and specifically the desert.

ABOUT ME

I am a mother, a farmer, a philosopher, a dancer, a circus artist and educator, and an herbalist. I have lived in Southern California, southern Maine, Guatemala, Chicago, and love living off the grid, homesteading, making music, dancing, and building/finding community.

My 12 year old son, pup Poppy, and I are on a journey to see the United States! He has seen the East coast and West coast, but nothing in between, and I really want to take him to the desert, and to see the four corners area and many of the national parks and forests along the way. We are set up with a truck camper, and ready for an adventure!

We love hiking, taking walks with our pup Poppy (6 months), practicing and performing single point trapeze, Lyra, and silks, spinning fire, skating, finding libraries, discovering new places and philosophizing.

My son is really into Harry Potter, mountain climbing and meditation, being homeschooled/worldschooled, chopping wood, Avatar the last Airbender, animation, reading, discovering new places, and performing with the Maine Youth Circus.

PHILOSOPHY

Live every moment. Don’t let fear stop you from creating the life you want.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to see the entire world! I live for new adventures and meeting new people, trapeze wherever I can find a good tree, and I love to dance. I started using Couchsurfing in 2007 when my partner at the time and I hitchhiked across the United States. Back in Maine we hosted couch surfers from around the world. I had a son in 2012, and for a few years after that we lived in a communal house in the western foothills of Maine where we hosted woofers who wanted to learn farming skills at the next farm down the road. People visited from everywhere from New York City to Thailand, and we hosted them in an off-grid house that felt like stepping into the 1800’s, complete with wood cookstove. We lived there in the summers, and lake Atitlan in Guatemala in the winters (or Maine), and I attended a yoga teacher training in Chiapas, MX. I taught at a hostel/WorldSchool Del Lago on lake Atitlan, and at points my son attended a Waldorf School on the lake.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Lived in a house where unofficial couchsurfers came in and out all the time. Met a fellow couchsurfer and caught a ride to Burning Man. Went to the CouchSurfing Tent at Burning Man, and had dinner with a delicious habanero pepper grown in someone's garden that made me cry. Couchsurfed through parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, New York, Illinois. Hosted couchsurfers in Scarborough, made yummy food. Attended Burning Kouch 2011! Hosted woofers at an off-grid homestead for years, lived communally in Guatemala with some official and some unofficial couch surfers coming through all the time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived on lake Atitlan with my son, learning the plants, languages, and cultures of that magnificent part of the world, and taught circus arts at World School Del Lago.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: Spanish, piano, aerial dance, poi spinning, yoga, meditation and mindfulness, singing, breath work, how to establish alternative economies, off-grid living skills like canning, solar systems, gravity fed water systems, dirt/composting science, herbal medicine making/foraging.

I can learn: anything you have the patience to teach!

I can share: my stories, my time, my curiosity and zest for life, a class on anything under the “teach/learn/share” portion, from herbal medicine making to aerial dance or other circus arts like hula-hooping and poi.
