ABOUT ME
People who know me tend to agree that I have a dry, deadpan sense of humor.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures, and I also like sharing what I know about my city with others. I've been on the site awhile but only recently have really had the time to participate.
Interests
I've always had an interest in maps and geography. This is perhaps why I have a fairly good sense of direction, though I have gotten lost in big cities before. I tend to explore things linearly, so my favorite outdoor activities are hiking and bicycling. In Boston, I keep track of where I've been and try to walk or bike around the places that I haven't.
I'm also very interested in learning and practicing languages. At present I'm trying to keep my French at a good conversational level. I'm fairly comfortable with tourist vocabulary and simple communication when traveling around Europe (at least in German, Spanish, French, Russian, and Italian-speaking countries), but elsewhere in the world I'm more lost. In the longer term I'd like to get at least one other language up to where my French is now and get my French as close to fluency as possible.

Music, Movies, and Books
My musical tastes are constantly evolving. At the moment they're all over the map. A few favorite artists: Silversun Pickups, Broken Social Scene, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Janelle Monae, Lady Gaga, BT, Gnarls Barkley, Danger Mouse, the Beastie Boys.
I like a good mix of literature and light reading. If I can tie it into my travels, so much the better. I read Crime and Punishment in Russia and wandered the streets of Dublin after reading Ulysses. I've also enjoyed much of Paul Theroux's nonfiction.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I met the king of Belgium once.
Teach, Learn, Share
While I'm not a great chef, I have been experimenting with cooking for some time and have at least a few recipes that I'm confident in teaching.
