Présentation
À propos de moi
I'm a Math PhD Student at NC State University in th US.
I'm originally from Santiago of Chile, i'm moving to the US soon for my Phd.
I think i'm going to start traveling a lot in the future since i'm going to be a researcher and professor, and there's a lot of congresses and seminars around the world every year!
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
I really think that before money was such a big part of everything in the world, one could just go somewhere and people would be willing to help or just showed interest in you! (or at least i like to think that way)
A lot of the things that make travels so great, specially abroad, are the (perhaps (?)) different ways of viewing the normal day to day of people, the way they say certain things, what do they care about what doesn't really matter. To find that out, i don't think there's a better way than speaking, having conversations and just living with someone.
And of course, i can't not mention that a lot of the money spent in travels goes in a place to stay, when it could go for a better experience in the place you'll go!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
I like almost very type of music! But i'll always have a soft spot in my heart for pop punk, i started really listening to music with it, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Panic! at the disco, etc.
One of my favorite movies is Boyhood, it really impressed me the way the portrayed the early life of a person so realistically
I really like the books by Hermann Hesse like Demian, Siddhartha or Steppenwolf, i read them when i was younger and they really resonated with me over the years. Another book that i always remember is Blindness (Ensayo sobre la ceguera) by José Saramago, it's a really interesting and mysterious novel about a literal blindness pandemic.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
I guess the most brave thing i've done is choosing the career path i am.
I started university in electrical engineering just for the money, but i quickly realized that there was so much more in the world to see and learn!
I got fascinated by my early math courses and when they were done, i got really sad and i couldn't figure out why.
After a few days i started to think it was because i wasn't going to be learning pure maths anymore and i was going to start learning how to be "in the industry" of electricity. I realized that the office life wasn't for me, that what i really liked was learning, about everything, not just math. So i dropped out of electrical engineering and started my math degree.
I've been in the research world ever since, it was the best decisión of my life.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
I love talking about what i do, or why something so seemingly unrelated to "real life" fascinates me so much.
I actually work as a maths teacher for the same reason, i like trying to communicate why it's so fun to me, and that it's ok too to not like maths, we all have different tastes!
I think i'm a really good listener, over the years I've realized that people tend to trust in me quickly and i think it's just because i really listen to people and reply accordingly and with curiosity about them, without overstepping the line of the conversation we would be having of course.
One thing i could share, and maybe it's hard to believe, is that 99% of the time i don't lie, ever, like i don't see the point in it (and i just do it in really particular scenarios), and i think that's why i don't really get mad ever, i tend to have a really logical way of treating emotions so it's hard for me to find something that get's me mad.
Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes
I haven't traveled a lot (yet!) so i guess for now just a good conversation and respect!
