About Me

Glutenfree Vegan

(This means please don’t bring animal based products into my home. This includes meat (including fish, chicken, pig, dog, snake - any flesh from an animal) as well as dairy, cheese and honey) - I don’t mind sharing what I have of course but I’m not running a hostel.

adrenaline sport lover, academic, musician, art collector, I'm 35 with mostly-Christian values although I study religion in general specifically the Tao at the moment and enjoy practicing piano. Sometimes I enjoy playing chess, Go, and scrabble.

To Me Couchsurfing Is About Goodwill Hospitality, and budget travel through the eyes of real people instead of glossy tour magazines.

I am uncertain about my relationship with Couchsurfing due to a variety of factors right now, but have enjoyed many good experiences and I am certainly not staying to prove anything.

I have a busy work life and I’m still getting to grips with keeping a good equilibrium. There are some great youth hostels for cheap like the ymca, yha, st Christopher’s inn, and city centre Bath backpackers . My facilities just aren’t these, nor am I an airb&b.

One of the most wonderful stories that I have heard so far from my guests (other than the game - bluestories) is that of the musician Rodriguez.
If, as I do, you ask guests for their music suggestions then I will tell you of Rodriguez but you can get a head-start by watching the documentary on Netflix - 'searching for sugarman'
Perhaps I will also challenge you to a spoken puzzle or game of scrabble/bananagrams!

The video shows my experience as a host (and my guest book). My own first adventure during summer 2017 was to cycle from The Hague to Chartres (via Paris) visiting friends and seeing the sights. I hoped to improve my French, find new friends and eat vegetables. I certainly did all this and more.

I am a simple and uncomplicated individual who loves travel because of the people and culture that I can discover, and I hope that by staying with hosts not hotels I will gain a perspective of the locations I visit other than the government designed tourist package.

By offering a couch to travellers, by the same logic, I hope to hear about the rest of the world.

All I expect on my own CS adventures is a shower, a cup of tea and a safe space to sleep, will have a sleeping bag just in case, will co.ordinate as best I can with hosts to avoid disturbing their routines (departure / arrival / return times), and enjoy helping out however I can.

So this is what I offer to like-minded travellers- food, washing facilities, a safe place to sleep, and good company.
Keys however are not included so sometimes when I go to the gym or leave for work early for example , I will need you to co-ordinate and ensure there aren’t any problems ie departure at the same times, or finding things to do during the evening if I am unavailable (don’t worry I will, of course, not leave anyone locked outside in the cold)
