I am new to the CS community, but through the Ulster Project and hosting foreign exchange students I'm used to having new people in my home, or in staying in other peoples homes.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had foreign exchange students stay for extended periods of time, and have had a couple of couchsurfing experiences - both as host and as guest.

Music, Movies, and Books
We are voracious readers, movie watchers, and music lovers. My daughter plays piano, guitar and sings, but I was only given the gift of appreciation.
We have a very wide range of movie interests - everything from "The Princess Bride" to "Repo - The Genetic Opera" to "Monty Python - Quest For The Holy Grail" to "Snatch" and "Fight Club." Pretty much everything except horror movies. We love foreign films and movies that make us say "DUDE WTF?!?" at the end. My daughter is interested in World War II history, and I love history in general so we watch historial movies too. We love "Lord Of The Rings".
We read constantly and again our tastes are eclectic. I love historical fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, satire, and the classics. Some of my favorite authors are Christopher Moore, Jane Austen, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Joseph Heller, Terry Pratchett, and Edward Rutherford. My favorite books include Catch-22 and Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal.
Our music is even more eclectic. Our iTunes includes 80's new wave like The Cure and Violent Femmes, rap like NWA and Kanye West, soft rock like John Mayer and Maroon 5, pop like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, oddball folk like Rev Peyton's Big Damn Band, Celtic punk like Flogging Molly, indie like Ingrid Michaelson, bluegrass, tons of Russian music, tons of German music, tons of Japanese pop and rock, gothic rock, heavy metal, James Taylor, Marvin Gaye, zydeco, the list goes on and on... I say that I like everything except country, fusion jazz, and Mexican "rancho" music - but my daughter likes fusion jazz soo...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I can't narrow it down to one thing - I've seen too many amazing things. From standing in front of the International Fountain in Seattle, Washington during the World Rhythm Festival while the whole place moved to thousands of drums and didgeridoos. To sitting in a kayak in the middle of the Monterey Bay with sealife floating up to say hello. To standing in the middle of Times Square, NYC with life teeming around us. To seeing Wicked on Broadway. To taking a tour of the Bogside, Derry, with a former IRA member and meeting the Bogside artists.
