About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the world in search of culture, adevnture and enlightenment while meeting new friends through our journey

ABOUT ME

We are a fun and kind American couple (mid-30's) traveling the world in search of culture, adventure and enlightenment. Brett is an execuitve in Silicon Valley who has worked with several Internet start-ups. Christie is in nonprofit management and has most recently worked with the World Affairs Council in San Francisco. After many years of working hard and saving money, we left our comfortable jobs and life behind in San Francisco to explore our passions in life before starting a family.

Our journey around the world started on January 1st, 2012 and we've focused on Southeast Asia thus far. We plan to travel West towards Turkey, Eastern Europe and Latin America later this year. We are having an amazing time and excited to keep exploring the world and its many hidden treasures.

PHILOSOPHY

Always stay postitive and optimistic about life. We find the good in every person and situation that life gives us, while sharing knowledge and experiences to continually grow as people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We just recently discovered CS through friends and are looking for our first CS experience while traveling the world. Since we sold our home in San Francisco, we cannot host surfers until early 2013. We hope Singapore will be our first this April!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Our friends recently recommended CS so its a new experience for us. We think CS is a great way to connect with locals and learn about their culture as well as share our own knowledge and experiences. We only wish we knew about it sooner when we were living in SF. We can't wait to meet local people like us while traveling!

Living in San Francisco, we continually host family, friends and friends of friends. Our home is always open and we are excited to host Couchsurfers upon our return to SF.

Interests

We enjoy mixing in with the locals whether it's practicing their customs, enjoying cuisine or spending time learning their history.
Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, we love exploring different cuisines and wines from around the world. We like learning about new cooking styles and recipes that we are finding around each region.
One of our favorite activities is listening to live music and it's always on the top of our list for fun nights out. We listen to everything from hip-hop, electronic, alternative, rock, to jazz and blues.
Photography has become a passion, especially since we've been on the road with the time to explore the more artistic side.
We are interested in sports such as trekking, cycling, yoga, watersports and boxing.
We love reading both fiction and non-fiction literature. We have especially been enjoying reading books about history and memoirs in the places that we are visiting.
We love spending time with our familiy and friends, talking about life and having good conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

We love live music shows.... whether electronic/dance, hip hop, indie, rock or funk. Our favorites are Pearl Jam, Gorillaz, Thievery Corporation, Little Dragon, Hot Chip, Radiohead, Naz, The Roots, Miles Davis, Dr. John, Black Keys.
We read both fiction and non-fiction literature. We have especially been enjoying reading books about history and memoirs in the places that we are visiting. Most recent reads: Cambodia's Curse, Another Quiet American, River of Lost Footsteps: A Personal History of Burma, Buffet Beyond Value, Corrections, and Hunger Games.
We've seen so many movies it's hard to list our favorites. We don't tend to like the big blockbuster hits. Instead we look for cult classics, independent or foreign films.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbing atop the Temples of Bagan, Burma..... gazing out at the flat plains seeing hundreds of 10-14th century structures and imagining life long ago.

Canopying through the jungles of Costa Rica feeling the rush of danger and excitement from high above.

Kayaking through the mystical karsts at Cat Ba Island (Ha Long Bay)

Brett has tremendous experience with online marketing and site monetization. Chrisite has worked with several non-profit orgs building their membership programs and backend systems. Together, Brett & Christie have already traveled to more than 30 countries around the world and love to share their travel experiences.
We are interested in learning about anything new that we don't know, especially things that others are passionate about.
