I get easily bored. Luckily, my job as a journalist gives me the chance to learn something new every day and travel to so many different places. I have this giant duffle bag and my portable espresso maker - that's all I need to leave my house for weeks.

I'm not a professional couchsurfer yet, but I hosted many people and used many couches in Germany and Iraq through informal networks.

Interests

I'm a journalist and a news junkie: I love to read and watch non-fiction.
Besides that: sports, photography and as much time outside as I can afford.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once accompanied a miner who took me with him to his workplace in an old mine that was about to be rebuilt into a storage facility for nuclear waste. I spent a few hours in the darkness, a couple of thousand feet below the surface, with all this heavy machines and smoking men, in a place that will soon be closed for thousands of years and never be seen again.
Another thing was last year in Iraq when a friend invited me to a traditional goat killing during the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice. The butcher was an old man who never showed any signs of hesitation, never did he make any mistake. With all the prayers and precise movements of his knives, I have never witnessed anything that had more dignity.
