About Me
Exploring is my favorite thing to do - whether physically - in a new place, or mentally - in discussion, creating art or problem-solving. Tho I've done a good deal of traveling, I'm coming to Paris for the first time, and I couldn't be more excited! Of course, one week is but a spec of time to take it all in. But I'm sure I'll be back for more!
I'm passionate about just about anything involving creativity - including music, photography, abstract art, architecture, film, psychology, philosophy, cooking, word games and more.
Curious, creative, and easygoing. I hold liberal values, support equal rights, and oppose Trump’s authoritarian politics. As an American from Los Angeles, I’m conscious of how U.S. politics are perceived abroad and value the chance to represent a more thoughtful, humane version of American culture.
I’ve lived a fairly non-linear life shaped by art, travel, and community, and I tend to show up grounded, respectful, and open-minded. I also believe You are Who You Surround Yourself with. And, therefore, once we've met, my bio will have evolved a bit more - reflecting the impact you had on me.
Some of the tenets I live by (inspired by Burning Man):
There are no spectators; Only participants.
Leave No Trace. (Or better yet - Leave things better than you've found them)
You can see my various artistic offerings on www.dak.art. At the bottom of the page you can find all my socials. Feel free to connect with me there!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’ve often traveled with local connections in place, but this time I’m starting without them—which is what led me to Couchsurfing. I enjoy exploring with intention, but I’m flexible and open to whatever the day brings. Meeting new people and getting the local perspective on the places and culture I'm exploring is so much better than being a typical tourist.
I’m here to make new friends and for genuine cultural exchange, not just a place to sleep.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Circumnavigated the globe as part of the Semester at Sea program in 1990. It fundamentally shaped how I see people, culture, and my place in the world.
Also, among my many adventures at Burning Man, in 2013 I designed and produced the official LA Regional's installation at the base of the man. And the pendant I designed for it was exhibited at The Smithsonian Museum, as part of "No Spectators: the Art of Burning Man."
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach / Share: photography, creative process, visual thinking, architecture and design perspectives, life experience, good conversation
Learn: how people live, what matters to them, local culture, language nuances, and anything I don’t already know
What I Can Share with Hosts
Respect, curiosity, good conversation, cultural exchange, and a low-drama presence. I’m independent, clean, communicative, and appreciative of shared space.
I’m also happy to share stories, meals, walks, bike rides, or just coexist comfortably.
I'd be happy to cook you a meal, or clean up after one you prepare.
If there's any other way I could contribute - perhaps a small repair or a helping hand on a project of yours - I'm flexible and willing.
