About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Graduate college so I can teach in a developing country.

ABOUT ME

I'm from a typical Midwestern suburban nuclear family and currently attend Loras College in Dubuque, IA, where I'm studying history and secondary education. I studied abroad in Lisbon, Portugal for a semester. After graduating, I would like to teach in a developing country (South America, probably).

PHILOSOPHY

I like to force myself out of my own comfort zone - it seems to always be beneficial in the long run. I think that we have had it beat into our psyche to never color outside the lines, and I am doing what I can to resist.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Blues, Indie rock, indie folk, acoustic, and classic rock for the most part (Jimi Hendrix, Modest Mouse, Fleet Foxes, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.)

Movies: Quentin Tarantino and Ridley Scott films are my favorites (Pulp Fiction, Gladiator, etc.)

Books: Anything about history, philosophy, or politics. I like novels with a strong focus on a male protagonist (1984, Crime and Punishment, Catcher in the Rye, pretty much everything by Hemingway).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked in the Black Hills of South Dakota for the summer of 2012 and thought that it was paradise. I've been up to remote Canada and the Minnesota Boundary Waters several times, and love it up there, too. I studied abroad in Portugal and backpacked through Spain in spring of 2013.

Teach, Learn, Share

After 7 years, I can play guitar pretty well. I have a wide variety of brainy interests (history, politics, economics, philosophy, art) and my perfect night is sitting around talking about them.
