I grew up living around the world with my family. I have always enjoyed travel and sharing new ideas, new languages and meeting new people. For many years my wife and I lived in a beautiful village tucked into the towering peaks of the Rockie Mountains in BC, Canada. I have now accepted a position as principal at a new Canadina International school in Tokyo, an opportunity to continue growing, learning more about the world and learning more from others.

Over the years, the best part about traveling was sharing the lives of people in their homes. A beautiful place is usually beautiful because of the people there. Couch surfing is an opportunity travel actually living with and sharing the lives of people in the communities we travel to.

I have a wide range of interests. I am passionate about outdoor pursuits such as biking, hiking, kayaking, back-country skiing and mountaineering.

I have a real interest in history and culture. I find out as much as I can about a country before visiting there. I am fascinated by the history, culture and literature of the new countries I visit.

I also have a real love of music. I have sung in choirs most my adult life, I am learning piano.

My wife, myself and our two little girls lived in central China (Zhengzhou) from 1993 to 1995. We were the first foreigners to live and work in that area. We lived in the local Chinese school compound, lived off a Chinese salary and became relatively fluent in Mandarin. From there we travelled all over China as it was just changing into what it is now. We explored many of the Chinese major cities by bicycle.
