ABOUT ME

I'm an energetic, easy going kind of guy. Friends say I have a sharp sense of humor and a good heart. Having grown up in New York, followed by living in San Francisco and now Honolulu, I feel I have a pretty nice combination of East coast attitude, West coast casualness and Island style living. I pretty much tell it like it is and am willing to give almost everyone a chance. A motto I like for myself, "Try everything once. If you don't like it, try it again just to make sure"

I have a 6 year old dog that was found starving to death and brought into an animal shelter. I fostered her back to health for 4 weeks and then adopted her b/c she is a sweetheart. Yes, she is very important to me, so expect me to include her in my activities around the island on my days off. ;)

PHILOSOPHY

We are all trying to get to the top of the mountain. We may be taking different paths to the top, but it does not make one person better than the other. If the end result is making it to the top, why not celebrate making it to the peak rather than wasting energy trying to knock each other off?

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a surfer and a host. I surfed for two weeks in Australia in 2006 and 2012 . Since then I have been playing host, my travels of late have been back to NY to visit family and friends or heading over to Maui and Big Island.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am amazed by all the kindness and hospitality shown to me by my hosts. I had a 2 week vacation in Australia in November 2012 and stayed at 5 different houses with different hosts, so I truly got a broad feel of the couchsurfing world. It has been incredible. Most of my other traveling has been done b/c of friends that allowed me to stay with them. I have been able to travel to London, Paris, Australia, and various places in the USA due to friends who have let me sleep on their couch. I'm hoping to make many new friends here and share the experiences life has to offer.

兴趣

Although I live in Hawaii, contrary to what most people seem to think, we are not all surfers. :) In fact, I've tried surfing and it's fun, BUT I don't find it to be my thing, so I surf couches, not the ocean. lol.
I work in the tourist industry, so when I have a day off, I am usually looking to do something away from the touristy things.
Not to say I won't play tourist once and awhile. Everyone wants to see Hanauma Bay, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor- ALL worth seeing and you should definitely visit them. They truly are beautiful and breathtaking, and so are many other places on the island. If you want to go to a Luau or snorkel with dolphins or other organized activities like that, I can help you set that up and take a few dollars off the price. Just ask me.

I enjoy hiking, camping, spending time outdoors, listening to live music, and hanging out with my dog. I enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes. Often I grab a cookbook and just pick a recipe to see what it's like.

BBQ's are very big here and I'm not one to turn down an opportunity to hang out at the beach or in someone's backyard grilling food, having ice cold drinks and spending time with friends. Traveling is also something I enjoy, and I hope to do much more via this website. I enjoy playing and watching sports. My favorites are soccer, American football, Aussie footy, rugby and volleyball.

My main listening choice is any classic rock, The Who, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Steely Dan, The Doors, etc. but I listen to all different types of music. Some other bands I like: U2, old REM, The Cure, Modest Mouse, The Cat Empire, John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd, Morcheeba, Bonobo, Talvin Singh, Flaming Lips, The Sea and Cake, MGMT, Thievery Corporation, Kraddy, Vampire Weekend, Bastille, to name a few. I enjoy lots of different music but not ALL music. I can appreciate the artist's ability, but still dislike the sound. Death metal isn't high on my list of listening choices, neither is country music or hip-hop/rap where they "sing" about "shooting the bro's and banging the ho's".
I have music playing in my house almost all the time.

Movies- I like thrillers, dramas, indie movies, and I'm not ashamed to admit, I'm a kid at heart and I enjoy Disney movies and family movies like Shrek, Monsters Inc, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, Despicable Me, etc.

I'm hot or cold with reading. I will read tons of books in a short time span and then go for a long time without reading anything. I also tend to forget the names of books I read. I will remember the story once reminded, but when asked, I draw a blank. I'm a Stephen King and Dean Koontz fan if I had to say what kind of book I usually pick to read, but I also like books about history and science.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I saw the Eiffel tower in 1999 when it had a giant display on it counting down to the year 2000. I decided to walk all the steps up to the top instead of taking the tram and was happily surprised that they had little plaques on each of the landings with information about how the tower was built. Information you would never know about had you followed everyone else. The view from the top was incredible, and knowing that I had learned something that I would have never known had I decided to ride up to the top is something that still makes me smile.

If you stay with me I can loan you snorkel gear or boogie boards and give you some good spots to check out if you would like to go snorkeling. I like to cook my meals instead of going out to eat all the time. I would love couch surfers who like to share home cooked meals.
