ABOUT ME

When I was a lot younger than I am now, my dad had a furniture store with interior design services—actually four stores— offering some of the finest and most expensive reproduction furniture in the world. Working there summers and after graduating from high school, I developed an eye and a love for great furniture design that has stayed with me to this day. Eventually I migrated into the world of graphic arts and publishing, eventually launching a magazine in 1991 called Graphic Exchange that dealt with the new emerging technologies driving what back then we called desktop publishing. Our field of topics quickly expanded into other areas of digital creativity, including graphic design, video, photography and ultimately, when the Internet exploded around 1995, web design. Today I continue to be interested in these areas, along with my life long love of comedy. In fact, my dream as a young man was always to be a comedy writer. I used to imagine myself sitting around in a room with a bunch of crazy people like me, firing off one-liners and gags, improvising dialogue and cockeyed story lines. Alas, it was not to be. But a publisher I did get to exercise my comic side a little through the magazine covers I designed for fifteen years and even the Publisher's Notes I wrote in each issue. So it wasn't a total loss. Other than that, I like baseball (watching, not playing), food preparation (my home cooking is pretty tasty, if I do say so myself), anything to do with neuroplasticity (and I like books by Malcolm Gladwell and Jonah Lehrer), standup comedy, cold Coronas, the occasional 420, politics, lively debates, and sitting in sidewalk cafes watching the girls go by.
