Overview
About Me
We are a community in the early stages of converting an old retirement home into a meditation centre/ community of sorts in Christchurch. We practice together daily, and run small community events that are mostly creative and align with the values of meditative contemplation and inquiry.
We are only accepting requests from people who want to stay because they want to be a part of this sort of community. If we receive a request and you’ve given no indication of actually having read my profile, then I’m sorry but we will automatically decline your request. Firstly because if you’re expecting a regular CS experience then you might be disappointed in your stay, and secondly because it doesn’t feel to be in the spirit of CS to just seek out free accommodation regardless of the host.
We are looking for people who want to stay for longer periods. We find that 2 or 3 nights is a bit too short and hasn’t been working so well. We are more interested in people who want to participate and contribute to the community, and that takes a few days to find its feet. We ask that if you do stay that you are contributing in some way, whether that be about setting up a space, contributing something creatively etc. We are really open to how you could do this in a way that feels good.
Please be aware that we are in the very early stages and the place is not well set-up, so it's not a space to support you if you are completely new to meditation or expecting a luxurious resort.
It would be great to meet people first for a coffee and a chat before having you stay. There’s 6 of us living here, and it’s a big space, so we want everybody to feel comfortable about having new people enter the space.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love meeting new people and seeing different world views that everybody holds.
In my experience most people who travel like a couchsurfer are people with an innate curiosity for life and I find it really inspiring.
I find that I learn more about the world through meeting the people rather than looking at the sites.
Interests
I'm very passionate about meditation and dharma.
I'm really interested in anything as long as it's approached with an eye of curiosity and exploration.
There's a lot to be learnt from everything.
Anything creative. At the moment I am working on some music projects, game development and education, and teaching meditation and contemplative inquiry.
Like to have a boogie when the music is right.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I have a passion for deep and contemplative rap, and when I'm not listening to that, then I'm usually listening to some chill instrumental music.
Movies: Baraka and Samsara... Good Will hunting, Fight Club, Life is Beautiful, Her..
The Wire.
Books: I usually read non-fiction, but I also listen to podcasts more than I read, which is probably my main source of information. If you have any great novel recommendations, I'd love to hear it. I enjoy reading fiction but am always hesitant to start because I judge books by their covers.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The other morning I got out of bed when it was really cold.
