About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to experience the world from a local perspective. Learning about local history, cuisine, wine/beer, and geology/geography are all high on my list of priorities while traveling.

ABOUT ME

My job allows me 5 weeks off at a time, so I try to spend at least half of that travelling. I love the outdoors, and during Summer/Spring in the states you can often find me backpacking, or just wandering about. Geology and geography are of a huge interest to me, so I try to tie my travels into these passions whenever I can. I want to see the different areas of the world from a local's perspective. I think accumulating these types of experiences add to a person's overall character, so couch surfing seemed like a good idea.

PHILOSOPHY

We are the sum of our travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am pretty new to this experience, but I wouldn't mind hosting. I live North of Detroit, MI on a lake, so I am pretty isolated as far as the city it concerned.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have traveled using couch surfing once, but am hoping to add to my experience. The one time I used it was such an amazing time. I stayed with a couple of guys in Austin, TX, and they showed me around the city. I was able to see things that I probably would have missed had I just gone for the average hostel/hotel experience!

Music, Movies, and Books

Literature: I find myself with a fair amount of downtime at my job, so I occupy much of my time with reading. I have a love of the classics, but I also read some modern literature. Most of my leisure reading time is occupied with fiction, but I also enjoy science, travel, and cook books.

Music: My brain is usually all over the place, so I enjoy a wide variety of music. I usually listen to a specific genre for a couple of weeks, and then wander on to something else. I know the "I like everything," is kind of a cop-out, but really you would have to ask me what I was currently listening to in order to get a feel for where I'm at musically.

Movies: Huh, I guess the majority of the movies that I watch are on airplanes. I really enjoy Spaghetti Westerns and Wes Anderson flicks, but I don't think I really have a specific type.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did research while at university on the ancient magnetic field of the Earth. I spent two summer camping underneath the stars of the outback of Western Australia. It was my first real World travelling experience, and it was the start of an obsession.
