About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travelling the world and meeting cool people

ABOUT ME

I am Dan from New Zealand. I have quit my job and am taking a year or so to see some parts of the world that have always been in the back of my mind.
I started four months ago in south Africa then followed my nose up to Namibia, Zambia, hitchhiked my way around Zimbabwe and dodged bullets in Mozambique as a civil war started to break out ( and thankfully finished quickly).
I then flew to Munich in Germany and worked my way around Switzerland for a month. I am planning on spending a couple of months exploring the sights of Europe then heading back overland to New Zealand via Turkey Iran, central Asia, India, south east Asia and anywhere else that sounds interesting aswell.
I spent four years working in a job I loved in NZ which needed me to be very organised. Since travelling I have loved travelling without plans and schedules. I have met great people at every stop and made some fantastic friends along the way

PHILOSOPHY

I have learnt to accept what I can't change. There are some things I can't understand or see a solution to, but if I know what I don't know then surely I am better off than someone who doesn't know what they don't know.
I have found that regardless of skin color or religion ,people are just like me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I am travelling so not able to host.
I am looking to stay with fun people who can point me in the right direction for interesting stuff to do in their town

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a couch surfing virgin

Interests

I am into sports and travelling. The more off the beaten track the travelling is, the happier I am. Rode a bicycle around Cambodia in 2009 and a 110cc motorbike from south Vietnam to the north in 2012 with mates from uni.
Love sports. Back home I was getting into surfing and basketball. I cycled a lot and had a motorbike which would take me into the hills for some great trail rides. Like every other kiwi I play rugby from time to time and have just started running again.
My job was a civil engineer. I worked with bridges and things made from concrete and steel. Loved my job.

Music, Movies, and Books

On this trip I have started reading novels for the first time. Love Dan Brown books. Back home I normally read bio's or books on history so my book tastes are quite wide.
Normally don't watch tv, but will always make sure to watch Top Gear which is my favourite programme of all time.
I like all music depending on my mood. Except heavy metal. I don't like heavy metal much

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I escaped a civil war in Mozambique when the people in the car behind us got shot and killed.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teaching: I have been to some cool places and seen very different ways of living in different parts of the world. I can also tell you how a building reacts in an earthquake, something I find amazing but for some reason it doesn't seem to pull the girls...
Learn: I want to learn about different cultures and what forms peoples opinions. I also want to learn how to fix my motorbike engine and understand how electricity works
