Hi everyone, I'm Dan, an Australian traveler and musician roaming around at the moment trying to see the world for what it is. I just finished a sound art residency in Kanuma, and now I'm hoping to get a more in depth look of Japan and the people who live here. I'm always looking to make new friends and hear about other people's thoughts and ideas, or just have a good laugh!

Back home I work as a sound engineer, guitar teacher, and musician, and I'm hoping to try and play some open mic nights here in Japan to continue to test a new instrument I just built made out of clothes pegs. If the opportunity ever comes up, I'm always excited to play with other musicians.

I'm a really relaxed guy, always open for a drink or a hangout, and just excited to get a real insight into someone else's life. I'd love to make some friends here in Tokyo, or elsewhere in Japan, and see what it's really like here.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because the values behind it seem to draw in the most interesting, open, and kind-hearted people around, and the more I can be in a community like that the better. When I first started travelling, years ago, I was feeling a little disheartened about the lack of openness and connection I saw and felt in people around me. The more I connected with people from Couchsurfing or similar groups, the friendlier the world seemed.

I'm always looking to meet new people, no matter who they are or how they present themselves, and learn something new. I also just love helping people out where I can, so if there's anything I can help out with then I'm a very happy man - whether it's an extra hand, or just to listen and be a friend.

Interests

I'm a musician, and music is my main hobby. Besides that though, I love hiking, kayaking, camping, and the outdoors. I also like philosophy, and I'm always open for an interesting discussion. I can also be a bit of a film buff and I'm a big sci-fi fan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiked into the Sichuan mountains in China to search for wild red pandas - and after three days of hiking through thick snow, found one foraging fresh berries! It was the happiest moment of this trip.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always happy to give some music lessons, teach guitar, music electronics, or anything about audio production. I bring my field mic with me wherever I go, and have an underwater microphone, and two stereo mics, so we could always make some recordings and have some fun!
