About Me

Emma: My partner Daniel and I are a couple from Australia backpacking through the Americas for as long as we can and are first time visitors. We would love to meet locals who can share their experiences with us and maybe give us advice on things to see, do and eat in particular. We have visited 34 countries so far and love sharing our stories with new friends.
We have hosted a couple of couchsurfers before but now its our turn to be the guests. I am a tattooist of 7 years and Dan has worked in building and construction for 15 years. We are also keen workawayers, if you have a profile and would like to view ours, please send us a message.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Dan: Couchsurfing is a great way to meet locals and get a much more in depth experience of a place. Sometimes tourist accommodation can be a bit insulating and this site is helping break down those walls.
At home we have a spare room which is only used during school holidays for my niece and nephew and figured why not open it for fellow travellers. Hosting turned out to be a very rewarding experience and we got to help our guests beyond just giving them somewhere to stay.
We hope some people we meet along the way will come visit us on their own adventures when we are back in Australia

Interests

We are the kind of travelers that enjoy a good hike, some street food and getting immersed in local cultures with locals and other travellers. We love to cook, camp, scuba dive, learn about history and walk for hours exploring new places. And try all the fantastic foods every country has to offer, ofcourse. Favourites include chana masala (most indian curries, really), swiss cheese fondue, shakshuka, ramen, gyoza, tacos, anything involving salmon, eggplant parmiagana, salady baguettes, hommus, garlic, mangoes, chillies, banana smoothies and fresh whole foods.
Emma likes to bake and fresh bread is a regular staple when we are at home.

Music, Movies, and Books

Dan: I usually make playlists with a lot of variety with everything from Metallica to Sia. Marc Cohn, Walking in Memphis would have to be my favourite song of all time.
I have to say i love all types of movies however i definitely lean towards fantasy and sci-fi.

Emma: Lately I've been enjoying stuff like DMA's, Ocean Alley, Gang of Youths and Bamboos
I'm not fussy about movies but I love South Park, Futurama, and recently enjoyed The Good Place, Brooklyn 99 and Into the Spiderverse.
I really enjoy Khaled Hosseini's series including Kite Runner and 1000 Splendid Suns

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Daniel: One thing i never thought id do is skydive.
It turned out to be one of the best, most memorable experiences of my life!

Emma: I recently completed my advance scuba diving course (with Dan ofcourse) in Malapascua where we got to deep dive with thresher sharks and it was absolutely amazing! they are such graceful creatures and getting to see them up close is something I'll never forget.

We hiked 14 days through the Himalayas in Nepal to Tharong La Pass, 5,416m above sea level. The diversity of the land was captivating & made even better by the friends we met along the way.
