About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel throughout Latin America, learn Spanish, make some new friends, and learn more about myself and the world.

PHILOSOPHY

Love never fails but people do. We must do our best to love all people, be they friends, enemies, or strangers. I know it’s not easy. The great poet Shelly once wrote that the secret of man is his moral imagination, his ability to step into the life of another and to feel as they feel, to live as they live. With this imagination, this love, there can be no holocaust, no jihad, no crusades. The greatest crimes against humanity, indeed many perpetrated even by those who called themselves Christians, were all committed by men who lacked love, who could not step outside of themselves for even the smallest moment.

But there is more to my philosophy than just love. As humans I believe that we have limitations and are therefore never able to truly get out of ourselves without divine intervention. God is love and it is through Christ alone that I have been enabled to love others.

I am far from figuring everything out but I would love to discuss it all further. Alexander Pope once wrote that man is the glory, jest and riddle of the world – if we can’t even figure this riddle of selfhood it seems presumptuous to try and define a being whose sheer existence precedes everything we have ever experienced. I could use some collaboration.

Interests

I am a sports man - and highly competitive. Soccer is my favorite but really anything that involves some fitness and a definite goal is usually fun. I also like to read and to write and often practice these pursuits also in my free time.

Music, Movies, and Books

My ideas, unfortunately, are mostly stolen from great writers who have gone before me. C.S. Lewis once wrote, “In reading I can see through the eyes of a thousand men and yet remain myself.” I have become hooked on great literature. From Dante to Milton to JK Rowling I have spent a good majority of my time devoted to reading.
