About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet new interesting people while trying to figure out how this couchsurfing thing works...

ABOUT ME

Wow, I thought I was up to date but all of a sudden I do read that this couchsurfing thing goes way back - 1999. Somehow I told myself it was something new. Anyway, I think the idea of visiting a city not anonymously sleeping in a hotel, but staying with and meeting locals is amazing. And well...

...it didn't take long and these couchsurfing nerds have made me one of them! Try it yourself, become an addict :-D

Oh, and of course now "all about me"...

...I'm a German PhD student in Cultural Studies and Political Science. I work at the University of Munich (Germany). I love doing sports (especially running, hiking, frisbee and soccer), reading, movies, eating, going out with friends - and I really enjoy exploring new cultures. I'm sociable, down-to-earth, I know how to keep a room clean (guess this might be of some interest for some of you), and, certainly, I also know how to have fun (guess this might be of some interest for some of you, too).

Besides all of this?

Meet me!! ;-)

PHILOSOPHY

Always stay open minded, try to understand, but do have an opinion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just too many wonderful moments - mostly the small ones that burn themselves deep into your mind! Like eating a traditional fish sandwich at the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul and smelling the river while the sun is burning down. Or sleeping under a mosquito net in a small shack in the Golden Triangle in Thailand while seeing the foggy silhouette of this old man smoking his long opium pipe...

Teach, Learn, Share

Each one, teach one! Being with new people, listen to them, share time and experiences, do what they do. And this is also part of my daily work as a journalist and social anthropologist.

If you wanted me to explain to you what I generally do at the University of Munich in one sentence: I explore new (digital) political movements throughout Europe in order to understand how the internet might help us to improve and to change our democracies and our daily life for the better. I talk to internet activists, democratic minded people, and politically interested citizens, and listen to what they think and have to say about democracy within a globally networked society. What a nerd... ;-)
