About Me

I'm a sociable, outgoing, chatty person who loves meeting new people and travelling. I have the travel bug and can't seem to stay in one place too long! I'm on sabbatical from my job as an English teacher to fulfil my passion of travelling. I spent the last 3 years and 2 months living in China as an English teacher before leaving at the beginning of April this year to travel the States for a month before heading up to Canada for 6 months. I'd like to think of myself as friendly, approachable, helpful, sensible and honest with a typically British sense of humour.

I'm new to couchsurfing as usually I stay in hostels but I heard so many great reviews from friends who also use it that I decided to join and try it out myself!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing in the hope that I can meet new people whilst I'm travelling as well as trying to stick within my travel budget. Typically, I like to visit places that are off the beaten path and not the tourist hotspots that most places are. These are great too, but getting a feel for the community and the area makes it a more enjoyable trip for me, even if I'm only there for a couple of days.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to host right now since I'm travelling and not settled in one specific spot, but as soon as I am again I'll be available for hosting. I've included some pictures of my apartment while I lived in China to show that I'm a clean, neat, responsible person who enjoys a comfortable living space.

Interests

In my spare time I love cooking and working on my baking as well as catching up on a few TV series when I have some down time. More often than not though, I can be found with a book in my hand since I'm an avid bookworm.

I love witty, like-minded people who are good conversationalists and of course lets not forget the copious amounts of tea I can drink (I'm a northerner, after all!)

Music, Movies, and Books

I like to listen to an eclectic mix of music ranging from the 60s and 70s right up to contemporary hits and indie bands. I grew up surrounded by the likes of Meatloaf (my dad), the Bay City Rollers (my mum), The Beatles (my hometown) amongst many, many others.

Books: if it's not nailed down I'll read it! I have a vast literary library and can get lost for hours in a good book. There's nothing better than a vivid imagination and dreams.

Movies: similar to music, I've seen hundreds. Probably one of the only genres I'm not so fussed about is horror. I particularly enjoy murder mystery / thrillers and films that come with a 'twist'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2012 I moved to China alone to live there. I didn't know anybody, I couldn't speak the language, I'd never visited before. But I gave up my job in the UK to take a job in China instead!

*Oh, and I've climbed the Great Wall! I'm quite proud of that :-)
