I moved to Austria two years ago, I'm nearing the end of a PhD in music aesthetics, i.e. philosophy music (what is music? why is music? how is music?). I play some instruments (piano for 28 years, viola for 20 years classical with some zydeco mixed in, guitar for 10 years and recently took up flat-picking; new additions are accordion and banjo), but mostly I'm in the group of people who write *about* music.
