ABOUT ME

I'm travelling From Rome, Berlin, Copenhagen and finally Sweden for the between May 26 and June 19. I'm interested meeting people along the way and having some fun, learning a little about their lives and sharing a little of mine. Music and beer is always a plus :)

Well, it’s very difficult to write about yourself without feeling like a prick but I will do my best. My whole life I have felt like everybody thinks I’m weird. I’m not sure why, I feel very normal to me. The nice thing about being considered weird is that you meet the strangest and most wonderful people. Having met so many other weirdoes over the years I’ve developed a deep appreciation for unusual people and find endless joy in strangeness. As far as what I believe, I think I can very plainly say that the most important thing for me is fairness. I believe men, women and transgendered people, people of different races, people of different sexual orientations and all people in general deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I try to treat everyone with dignity and respect until they disrespect me or I witness them disrespect other people. To paraphrase Martin Luther King, I try to judge people only on the quality of their character.

Ok, to be less serious, I’d like to say that I like to think I am a very silly person with a good sense of humor. I’d much rather make a joke in a bad situation than suffer or be bored. One important thing about me is that I’m a music fanatic. I love good film, television, literature, etc. but music for me is the most important thing in the world. When I was a kid and I heard punk rock it changed my life. It was the perfect music for me because it proved that there are no rules in art. I still believe that today. To me there are only two kinds of art: good and bad.

Well, that’s all I can say about myself except for one thing. I don’t know you but I’m excited to meet you. If you have read this much and don’t think I’m a total idiot we might be able to have some fun.

PHILOSOPHY

It's essentially what I wrote in the "all about you section" but I believe in being kind to other people and trying to understand them and not judge them. I think you should stand up to authority that is unjust and that truth and love will make you free.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I’ve met a few who’ve used this site and they have all had positive things to say. I've yet to have a couch surfing experience on my own so I hope someone will help me out with that.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hung out with a guy named Yohan who I met through a friend and he explained to me what couchsurfing was about. It was pretty fun hanging out with him and I’m hoping that I can have the same kind of experience.

Well, I mentioned above I really love music. I really love the music of the 70's and early 80's (Punk, Post-Punk, Hip-hop, Dub, Krautrock, Disco, etc.) and I'd say that I am quite an anglophile as many of my favorite groups are British. I have also been in bands as a singer, a bassist and a guitarist.

I've studied romance languages for many years and have used that as an excuse to travel around the world. To me the study of language is all encompassing so I enjoy cultural aspects as much as grammatical ones.

I'm also very fond of cinema, tv, books, etc. Lately, I've been enjoying a lot of British Comedy (Mitchell and Webb and Charley Brooker in particular). I love the French New Wave and American Cinema of the 70's but I'm a film consumer of the low and the high so I'm just as happy to watch science fiction and horror films as I am films by Bergman or Kurosawa (truthfully, I probably prefer those films to art films). I've grown to love the new wave of American series as well like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sopranos, The Wire, etc. I try to read literature from time to time but more often I read non-fiction books about history, music, etc.

I was in a band that opened for the Slits and I got to hang out with Ari Up and I got to hang out Mark E. Smith from The Fall once and with Henry Rollins a few times. Oh and Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo once. It sounds kinda lame to type it out but it was amazing for me
