About Me

I value learning and discovery. I'm never content to do just one thing and I am happiest when I'm able to try new things, see new places, and meet interesting people.

My first trip abroad was to Singapore, but it was when I went to Hong Kong that I fell in love with traveling and have been stricken with wanderlust ever since.

I have an unhealthy fascination with East Asia and have this crazy goal of becoming fluent in Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Korean before I hit 40 (which means I have ten years left).

I spent a summer in China in 2011 to learn Mandarin and have continued learning it after getting home. I've also recently started learning Korean and Japanese.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd love to master languages with others and learn other people's culture as I share my own. I'm interested to know how people live, how they see the world - and in the process gain a better understanding of the world I live in.

I'm currently hosting a Mandarin language practice group for both Filipinos who wish to practice Mandarin or Chinese nationals who wish to learn English or Tagalog.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a fan of baroque music and electronic dance music - quite the polar opposites, but that's how I'm wired. I love reading science fiction and fantasy books and find myself spending a lot of time reading pretty much anything - news articles, non fiction books, sites, whatever, you name it I'll read it. I might be a compulsive reader but that doesn't mean I don't get out every once in a while to see the beautiful world around me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Though I don't have any formal training in language teaching, I'd be very happy to teach my native language Filipino, as well as English. Having conducted training for software developers as part of my work in the past, I can also teach programming and markup languages like HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Java .

Let's learn languages together! Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese are my favorites but I'm open to learning new ones to add to my collection.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand
