Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
New to couchsurfing, spent about a week surfing with the legendary Marko in Belgrade, Serbia last year and had a blast with him and his brother. Currently living in Tenerife and working as a teacher. Would be willing to host but only really room for one or two people at the moment.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Marko, our host in Belgrade, went out of his way to help us feel at home, helped enormously by the application of near fatal quantities of Rakija (homemade fruit brandy) and friendly football rivalry (we were there during the World Cup).
En route to the Exit Festival of Novi Sad, Serbia's second city, we were in the mood to party and Marko's brother Jovan and his friends were more than happy to show us the local bars and clubs and the correct way to drink flaming absinthe shots.
Not only that, Marko, Jovan and their friends were always concerned that we knew how to be safe in the city and how not to be ripped off by the locals. One taxi driver we hired (with a fake official taxi company symbol on his car) tried to overcharge us by about 500%, but quickly backed down when confronted with half a dozen Serbian lads with shaved hair and football shirts, telling him not to take advantage of us.
So my first experience of couchsurfing was 100% positive and I can't wait to get more involved with the community.
