About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Kindness is more important than wisdom, and the recognition of this is the beginning of wisdom.

ABOUT ME

I was born in Darlington, England but spent the Lion's share of my childhood in a beautiful little fishing village 12 miles east of Edinburgh called Port Seton. I currently live in the town of Telford in the West Midlands, and have done so for the last 10 years. It's not a very exciting town sadly, but i like to say that my house is my little piece of tranquility. I have just graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a B.Sc. in Geography. I often get asked the question: "so what do you do with a degree like that?". My answer...anything you want! Physical Geography encompasses so many disparate disciplines, and with the environmental crises that have been coming at us like a bullet train over the last 50+ years, i would argue that Geography is the most important subject. It teaches people to care for and understand the environment in which we live. I think that is important if we want to find a solution to our manmade crises. I love nature and i love to teach, and i love to teach about nature. I feel certain that my path in life will lead me in this worthwhile directions. I am a vegetarian of 3 years, and love to cook good wholesome veggie food. I am a keen hill walker, and try to hike as often as i can. I also love watching great films, and have adopted my Father's philosophy on film watching: "I do not have enough of my life left to watch mediocre films, i only want to watch great films". I still have a long way to catch up. I love to travel, and i have many trips planned in my mind for the future. Most of my money is tied up in travelling to the USA at the moment, but once i work out how to become a resident i will be able to expand my horizons significantly. I cannot wait! I strive to be a kind, considerate and caring person in everything that i do. Making other people happy is the best tonic i know. I am also very passionate, but open to new ideas, and love to talk. Most of all i pride myself on being honest and true, both to myself and to others. I adore my friends, family and all 5 and 3/4 cats, and hope to become a valuable member of the CS family as soon as i possibly can. Thank you for accepting me! :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a new member to the site, so i feel like i participate very little at the moment. However, i hope to become more involved when i am more able.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Related to this website...none. Outside of the world of CS.org, however, i host a gathering of friends and family at least 2-3 times a year. It can be quite cramped at times, but the conversation flows like a river. I am lucky to be part of a community of great conversationalists.

Interests

I adore hiking and camping in the mountains and forests, I find that it can bring peace to a troubled mind. I love all living things and i am a keen birder, although, my skills do not match my excitement...yet! I like to read thought provoking books, and watch thought provoking films, and have thought provoking conversations. I enjoy football (Newcastle United is my team, and I "bleed black and white" as my Mam says), tennis and baseball (Chicago Cubs). I recently took up knitting!

Music, Movies, and Books

Films: Too many to name, so i will move on to books...

Books: Daniel Quinn books (Ishmael, Story of B etc.), Yann Martel books (Life of Pi, The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios etc.), The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, A human being died that night, the road, the ultimate Peanuts collection, I am a Cat...and many many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a day walking on top of the Franz Joseph glacier in New Zealand. A truly eye opening experience, particularly for a person who loves geography!
