It is all about fun, isn't? Getting to know new people and new cultures. That is fun, right!? Laugh of others sayings/jokes and get amazed over the differences and similarities. Further, making new friends is never a bad, innit.

Been on an exchange program three times in my life - all in different continents. I was only 15-16 when I went first time.

I would rather put it the other way around: share, learn and teach. Share whatever one have, such as experiences, ideas and thoughts. Then, learn from someone new or anyone close to oneself, and maybe merge the ideas together? And then, teach the new knowledge.
