I’m a 40 year old man who is just about to finish a degree which has rekindled a dream I used to have as a child where I would put some stuff in a bag and walk. The time has come when my responsibilities are dealt with and it’s now time to do just that. I’m excited about saying goodbye to the ‘rat race’ and giving that little kid what he wanted.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My aim is to drop pretty much everything I have accumulated, put some stuff in my backpack and work my way from London to Australia overland whilst meeting many people and experiencing many cultures along the way, oh, and trying to do it as cheaply as possible. I really think that couchsurfing would be the best way to see places from a local’s perspective.

Interests

When it comes to questions like this I find it easier to answer what I am not interested in which basically is arrogance and intolerance but I will try to answer. I would have to say that primarily my interests are philosophy, psychologies and good discussions; people basically. I enjoy connecting with people and hearing their stories but it doesn’t end there. I can play the ukulele and guitar and I also have a slight thing for horticulture and gardening but that doesn’t mean I’m always a homebody. I like new experiences that stretch my knowledge and awareness.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like virtually any music that that is played or written with some passion however I’m quite fond of that dirty grunge sound. The books I tend to read are about various psychologies or Buddhism although I quite enjoy a good fictional book every now and then.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not to blow my own trumpet but I’ve done quite a few things that I think are pretty ‘cool’ like being a DJ on a community radio station, being the first person to ride a bike around Sydney Olympic stadium or working on large music concerts in Australia and touring musical theatre and plays around the U.K and west end whilst getting to meet numerous famous people but when I listen to the stories of travel, I think they’re much cooler.
