PHILOSOPHY

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never couchsurfed, the whole project is new to me, but I love the idea. I used to live near the Appalachian Trail and my friends used to take in hikers so they could shower and sleep indoors, I always thought that was cool so here I am.

Interests

In addition to meeting interesting people, I'm pretty into outdoors things - hiking, snowshoeing, etc., but I have two true loves. First is birdwatching, second is cycling, not necessarily in that order depending on the day. A good game of Scrabble never hurt either.

Music, Movies, and Books

One of the most interesting books I've read was "N by E", by Rockwell Kent. The book details a journey in a series of short chapters, each of which is illustrated with an impressionist lithograph. It makes for a really interesting reading experience, having the author-artists verbal and abstract visual interpretations of the subject matter presented together.

Music: lately I'm really enjoying "Band of Horses" [Everything all the time] and "Phoenix" [Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix]

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen people do a lot of amazing things on bicycles, especially in races. When somebody has been pushed to their absolute physical limit in competition and is completely, utterly exhausted, that's when you find out what kind of person they truly are. People who are nice then are good natured to the very core of their existence, no faking.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to share my knowledge of the natural history of the area. This particularly relates to birds and birdwatching. I can also offer my thoughts on places to go hiking etc. in Gros Morne and other parts of Newfoundland.
