Chi sono

I am SIX MILES from a bus stop and 25 from downtown Houston. Please see the "my home" page for incredibly pertinent information about staying with me.

About Marek - I dance. I'm in love with Ballroom and West Coast Swing but also love the benefits of a ballet, modern or jazz class. I like music and love to put my entire music library on shuffle and see what happens. My music spans at least six languages and more genres than I know what to do with.

I like doing the dishes and cleaning in general. I like antiques and old-fashioned plates, not the kind you eat from, and dutch iris. I like to write and scheme. I am perhaps a little offbeat.

About David - my husband. He's a chemical engineer but enjoys talking about everything. Likes sci fi and action films a lot, especially realistic and dramatic types (think District 9) but also happily watches anything with me.

We have a toddler! Hosting is iffy.

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

I'm here because it's a lot of fun to meet people who live where I travel. I've surfed in Zurich, London and Dublin and they were both fabulous experiences.

Since moving to Houston, I've hosted quite a few people with my (former) roommate. There have been rootbeer floats for British people, taking people Salsa dancing, including people in our game nights and a few nights just chilling in.

David - he's hosted with me just once and surfed with me once.

Interessi

I enjoy dancing, ballroom dancing, swing dancing, music, reading, surfing the Internet, cheese, chocolate (especially dark), languages, butterflies, stars and other whimsical things, faeries, spirals, doodling, taking notes in outline format, paper size A4 and more.

David enjoys computer gaming, sci-fi novels, problem solving, puzzles, the occasional origami project, board games and whatever project catches his attention.

Musica, film e libri

Authors: Madeleine L'Engle, Lloyd Alexander, J. K. Rowling, Piers Anthony, C.S. Lewis, Nick Hornby, Louisa May Alcott, Charles DeLint

Books: Liner Notes, High Fidelity, The Enchanted Book (and faerie tales in general), The Inheritance, Ender's Game, October Sky, Vol Envol, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and currently working on The Rebel Angels by Robertson Davies.

I like Romantic Comedies, Historical Fiction type things, movies about the Holocaust but I don't like action and violence (for violence's sake)

As far as music goes, I'll give anything a chance but I like almost anything with any type of Irish roots. Favorites du jour: Kings of Convenience, sometimes some reggaeton, Oak and Gorski, Katie Herzig, musicals, either hits station or Estacion de Musica Pop in the car.

David: He's read a ton of Stephen King and has a Song of Fire and Ice with the intent to read them all. He's also read the entire Riftwar Saga. There's some Terry Goodkind, too. His book problem is as bad as mine, promise.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I missed a train from Barcelona and had to sleep in a train station while on mid-winter vacation. We also took a night time cab ride along the Mediterranean crossing from Spain in to France to get to the train station. That was pretty hilarious, now that I think about it.

I did two solid days of travel to go to Ireland for the weekend and I would totally repeat the experience.

Insegna, impara, condividi

We could go dancing or I can teach you in our living room. Or we can practice Spanish or English or French or what bits of Latin grammar I remember.

Since they've redesigned the layout, I'm putting this here as well:
Our couches and spare rooms are now located in Tomball, TX and we are a solid 45 minute drive into the center of Houston. There are no buses from here. ):
